2014 DRAFT REVIEW

Pick #20: William Nylander
The son of former NHL player, Michael, William is an extremely skilled, dynamic player who has quick hands and feet that make him dangerous offensively. He has great top-end speed, a strong burst and elite vision. He can distribute the puck like few other his age. An intelligent player, he out-thinks opponents regularly.

Pick #25: Nikolaj Ehlers
Nik is a Danish blazer who has high end acceleration and a set of gears. One of the best skaters in this draft. Fearless in traffic. Possesses an excellent wrist shot. Can make plays while moving at his top gear. A bit undersized, but developing in all areas.

Pick #37: Ondrej Kase
Ondrej is a good mobile skater with speed and acceleration. He's a GREAT playmaker with excellent puck-handling skills. He needs to bulk up, but he's still a guy that can be relied on offensively.

Pick #143: Olivier Leblanc
Leblanc is a smooth skating puck moving defenseman who sees the ice extremely well and makes crisp tape-to-tape passes. Skates well and is poised with the puck but needs to gain strength and improve defensively.

Pick #173: Josh Thrower
Dalton's brother is a two way defenseman who skates well. He has a good point shot and walks the blue line to open the ice. Able to clear the front of the net and more than willing to drop'em.

Pick #203: Emil Aronsson
Aronsson is great at finding his linemates and he's also an effective faceoff guy.

2015 DRAFT REVIEW

Pick #17: Oliver Kylington, D, AIK (SWE)
Potential: A-
EHEC comparison: Dmitry Kulikov

A smart two-way defenseman, who has a tremendous feeling for the game and reads the plays well. Oliver Kylington is only average sized, but lets you forget the missing inches with his hockey sense, his strong vision and remarkable skating abilities. Owns a good shot from the blue-line and combined with this very good puck- and passing-skills, he can guide a power-play and the team’s offensive game to success.

Pick #27: Nicolas Roy, RW, Chicoutimi (QMJHL)
Potential: B+
EHEC comparison: Nick Bjugstad

Tall rangy centre-forward with excellent agility, quickness, skill, and hands. Is poised while in possession, due to his incredibly long reach. His feet are what surprises you, how he light he seems and how easily he can bounce from contact to the area the puck is. He crashes the front and his reach gives him advantages. Set up the screen, and uses his size to make plays.

Pick #38: Brent Gates, C, Green Bay (USHL)
Potentia: B+
EHEC comparison; Kyle Beach

Big strong playmaking center who is a force down low. Good on the cycle and strong in puck battles in the dirty areas. Parks himself in front, and is able to push his way anywhere he wants. Has an active stick and can play on the penalty kill for his club.

Pick #123: Jared Bethune, C, Prince George (WHL)
Potential: C
EHEC comparison: Josh Bailey

Workman-like centre-forward whose willing to get his nose dirty in the greasy read for the cause. His game is going North-South and he likes using his body. Has shown a bit of creativity. Hides his shot release well and has a few body fakes. Works hard battling for biscuits.

Pick #143: Luke Opilka, G, USNTDP (USHL)
Potential: C
EHEC comparison: JS Giguère

Intriguing USA Developmental goaltender from Effingham, Illinois who is impressive in all phases of position. Displays good positioning and anticipation, along with a nice glove and great reflexes.

Pick #146: Stepan Falkovsky, D, Minsk (BLR)
Potential: C
EHEC comparison: Duncan Siemens

Giant-sized stay-at-home defenseman who takes pride in delivering bruising body checks. Won't do anything special other than that but is the kinda guy you want as a #6-7 guy on your team.

Pick #147: Roy Radke, RW, Barrie, (OHL)
Potential: C-
EHEC comparison: Cody McLeod

Defensive-minded forward who's willing to take the body when needed. He's got a good size and he can help kill penalties. Could turn out as a fringe-NHL forward someday.

Pick #176: Cameron Lizotte, D, Peterborough (OHL)
Potential: D+
EHEC comparison: Stéphane Robidas

Another stay-at-home defenseman with decent size. You can never have too much of those.

Pick #206: Jared Fiegl, LW, Cornell (NCAA)
Potential: D
EHEC comparison: Marek Svatos

Future AHL star, Jared's main weapon and the reason he was picked in this draft is his very good shot.

2016 DRAFT REVIEW

Pick #92: Ondrej Najman, C, Jihlava (CZE)
Projected to be a fringe AHL forward, he could boost into a very high CON, speedy, 3rd line, two-way forward. Low risk, high reward pick at that spot.

Pick #108: Zachary Sawchenko, G, Moose Jaw (WHL)
With that 92CON, he'll be a perfect backup goaltender at some point in the future.

Pick #109: Tanner Laczynski, C, Lincoln (USHL)
Also projected as AHL depth but best case scenario he turns out a very high CON, 3rd line, checking center with good faceoff abilities.

Pick #110: Travis Barron, LW, Ottawa (OHL)
Low CON winger who could battle for an NHL bottom 6 job one day. Great at positioning and playmaking.

Pick #115: Tyler Parsons, G, London (OHL)
Another very high CON goaltender. Might end up sharing the AHL Starter/NHL Backup with Sawchenko one day.

Pick #150: Linus Weissbach, LW, Frölunda (SWE)
Nothing more than an AHL middle 6 forward with very little size.

Pick #168: Artur Shepelkov, D, CSKA Moscow (MHL)
AHL Top 4 Dman who plays a physical game.

Pick #198: Jake Ryczek, D, Waterloo (USHL)
5'10 Dman with playmaking skills. AHL depth player.

2017 Draft Review

Pick 2: Nico Hischier
Projects to be a high end offensive centerman with good size. He's likely one year removed from making an impact but he's got a bright carreer ahead of him.

Pick 22: Pierre-Olivier Joseph
High CON defenseman with a mean streak and enough OFF to one day become a top pairing guy. After boosting, POJ looks like he might end up being the best D to come out of the 2017 draft class.

Pick 23: Timothy Liljegren
Liljegren, also a POT booster, still has time to develop into what could become a real good offensive minded defenseman with high CON. Should he follow the POJ path, Liljegren could also be a top pairing guy.

Pick 54: Josh Brook
Well balanced defenseman with top 6 potential. High POT guy who doesn't show any real weakness other that his average CON.

Pick 55: Maxime Comtois
Your typical grinder with bottom 6 potential. He's got enough OFF to contribute and will be willing to play the HnG.

Pick 78: Grant Mismash
High POT sniper with a little grit. Hoping he can follow the path of many other high POT guys who were able to work on their flaws to become real nice surprises for their teams.

Pick 111: Filip Westerlund
Skilled D on a small frame. Will struggle to get to the next level but will undeniably become a real good AHL offensive defenseman.

Pick 127: Cameron Crotty
A defenseman with good size and with very little NHL aspiration. Probably a carreer in the AHL is what awaits Mr.Crotty.

Pick 141: Morgan Barron
POT booster that has very little chance to see NHL ice. Just a guy that might also be a member of our AHL affiliate for a very long time.
