The French Touch

"We're only few miles away from the french part of Canada, right?"

WHY? Yep, ladies and gentlemen, all Senators fans, why hiring a french born (Martin Barnay is native from Paris) to manage our favorite team?
I understand he has lots of experience and had great success overseas. We all know the former GM Brett Hosie and the team owner were not on the same page anymore. But still...

This being said, it's time for M.Barnay to get a Q&A.

Hey Marty, can u tell more about the moves u made lately?
"You already know that I won't give any details on the way i run the negotiations.
First, our weakness was clearly between the pipes. Brian Elliott is a nice guy, a great teammate, but the starting goalie job is too big for him, he knows that. Samu (Perhonen)* is a big, athletic goalie. I've seen him playing in Europe since he was 12 and I always knew he was a huge talent. He's definitely a part of the Ottawa Senators bright future.
About Tangradi**, he's that type of player i really enjoy. Big body, hard hitter, good skating with a fine scoring touch. I don't have to remind you that our identity is to crush anything passing along the boards or between the dots, so he will perfectly fit in our team."

Let's talk a bit about Jimmy Hayes, who's been lately recalled from Grand Rapids?
"This guy is fantastic! I mean, he showed up to the training camp with no expectation... But he's been a huge surprise for all of us. He's a big guy, with a great hockey sense. He has his ups and downs though, but he performed so well with Grand Rapids that we had no other choice than calling him up right away!
This is also a message for all our guys down there. Force our hand and you'll get your chance at Ottawa..."

Can we expect any move in a near future?
"Well, as i said, there's always a way to make the team better, and this is my daily task! Every day, i come to the office, sit and exchange thoughts with Robbie (Ftorek, Head Coach), and think about somehow to improve the team. So, who knows?"

What are the odds to make the playoffs this season?
"They're good. I think we had a good start (3-1-1 after 5 games), and Robbie is still trying différent combinations to find the good chemistry, so it just can be better and better i guess. But we have to be careful because all the teams in our division got improved , so we'll have to be battling til the end to earn a spot into the playoffs."

Yah, it's time to delay the golf season's opening.

Go Sens Go!

Postgame reaction (6-4 win @ Columbus)

"When the coach called a timeout after the Jackets 3rd goal, he told us not to panic because we were actually playing good and we had plenty of time to come back. We only had to be tighter in front of our nets and be ready to fight for the rebounds. We kept following the game plan and it finally paid off. The whole team showed a great character out there and we totally deserved the win. The guys on PK did a great job, one more time." -- Andre Lakos--

OTTAWA ACQUIRES DOUGHTY FROM COLORADO

"I'm really proud to announce that the Ottawa Sens made the acquisition of Drew Doughty. With the addition, the team can now count on a really good Top-4 D-Core with Doughty, Lee, Cohen and Svedberg for many years.
And with Spezza, Backes, Zibanejad, Zharkov, Tangradi and prospects Nichushkin and Burakowsky, the future looks brilliant.
This the reason why i gave up so much draft picks. But if you look at it more deeply, none of them should be a Top-15 pick, so it's fine for me." -- Martin Barnay --

"I've always dreamed to play for a candian team in the Eastside's Hockey Elite Collide league and this dream comes true. I'm really excited to play in such a good team and i'm looking forward to give my best for the Sens." -- Drew Doughty --

NICHUSCHKIN EHEC DEBUT

Robbie Ftorek recently confirmed to journalist Marc Brassard that Valeri Nichuschkin will play his first EHEC career game tonight when the Sens will face the Nashville Predators.
He´s been seen skating along with Spezza and Zibanejad on the morning skate. No doubt this is gonna be a great feeling for da kid.

Postgame reaction (1-3 loss @ Saint-Louis)

"Sometimes, you have to give some credits to the opponing team. We didn't played bad, but the Blues played a solid game. Our backup performed well, but my players seemed tired from last night game in Detroit where it was a tough battle."

JUNE 26 2015 - DRAFT DAY

1st selection - Alex Dergachyov (#47), 6'4

The russian truck was ranked much lower as he's pretty unconsistant in his game.
But hey, he's strong, fast, hits and can score goals. So if he shows up every 2 games, I'm fine with this.

Projection: TOP-6 forward
Compared to: Corey Perry

2nd selection - Dennis Gilbert (#71), 6'2

THE agitator.
A shutdown defenseman with a great character, able to play on the wing also. He's strong and he's pretty tough to play against as he likes to hurt his opponent everytime he jumps on the ice. Will definitely play in the NHL someday.

Projection: 5-6 Dman, bottom 6 winger
Compared to: Kevin Bieksa

3rd selection - Petter Hansson (#93), 6'1

With his a great work ethic, the swedish native could turn into a great 2-way Dman.

Projection: #3 Dman
Compared to: Alec Martinez

4th selection - Anthony Richard (#128), 5'9

A specialist at the dot, with nice all-around abilities. Will be a Sen someday.

Projection: 4th line center
Compared to: Marcus Kruger

No comment on the remaining selections as the equipment manager made the picks.

Early this morning, the GM announced that the team acquired Colin Wilson from Calgary in exchange of Zack Stortini, prospect Arkhip Nekolenko and Ottawa 1st round pick in 2017.

"Colin is a great versatile player who's able to move the puck very well. He's known to be pretty weak on his own zone but I'm confident that our training staff will make him better defensively, so that he can reach an other level.
Colin is definitely a top-6 forward but I can't say who he will play with. It's all about Robbie's decision."

With 2 preseason games remaining, we should get tonight an idea on the team who will start the season in October.

"100 points and get into the playoffs."
Martin Barnay has been pretty clear during the press conference.

"All the teams in the Northeast got improved the summer, but our strength is that we have the same core compared to last season, except Burakowsky who promoted from Binghamton.
This will be a tough competition, but I think the team is able to claim one of the 3 top places in the division."

Projection: 102 points, 3rd in the Northeast, 6th in the Eastern conference.

Projecting lineup:
Nichushkin-Spezza-Burakowsky
Wilson-Backes-Zibanejad
Zharkov- Gaustad-Tangradi
Dejersey-Nermark-Tyrell

Phaneuf-Lee
Svedberg-Cohen
Orpik-Lakos
