You get more and more space with each game you play (so long as your salaries are under the cap). You currently sit with the 9th highest allowable (only ~$15M behind me for 1st (2nd is almost $12M behind me)).

Thanks for this Vik; I'm sure I am not the only one who would appreciate a weekly update next month as business picks up.

Aren't teams that have a higher amount of GP pre-deadline at a small advantage with the way we currently calculate the max allowable hit? Perhaps the last 48 hours we should use the same GP # for all teams? Just a thought.

Fine, but currently the biggest GP difference is 5. If the deadline were today, that means a team gaining/losing 6% of their max allowable cap hit (or something that effect, I am bad at math). I'm not sure what the largest GP difference will be deadline day, and currently I'm one of the teams with <50 GP, but it might be something worth considering for next season.

Max allowable payroll changes everyday, even after the trade deadline has passed.

At the deadline, teams with fewer GP will benefit from having their newly acquired players for more games, while teams with more GP will have a little more cushion.

No one has an advantage. It would be like asking for everyone to have the same schedule so that no one has an edge.
It just doesn't work this way.

Yep. If you want to figure it out, look up how many games you'll be without Gaborik for. Then you can do the following:

x = (66,119,168*60 + 68,000,000*GP) / (60+GP)

And then using the equation I previously posted to calculate the max...

(68M - amount in to date column * games played / 82) / (games remaining / 82)

You'd substitute that number for the to-date and you'd use the total number of GP at that point, rather than your current, for games played:

(68M - x * (60+GP) / 82) / ((82-(60+GP)) / 82)

Notes:
GP is the # of games remaining without Gaborik, not total GP
Using Dan's number which is different from mine though I don't understand why


And because I'm sure that'll look confusing, I'll do an example.
If Gaborik was to miss 10 more games, you'd do:
(66,119,168*60 + 68,000,000*10) / (60+10) = ~66,387,858
(68M - 66,387,858 * (60+10) / 82) / ((82 - (60+10)) / 82) = ~77,404,162

Also, this only works assuming you stay at 68M the entire time Gaborik's out (in other words, you don't exceed the allowable amount of LTIR room you've got).
