Canes 2016 draft review

Post by DaveG-Canes »

1 - #26 - D Kale Clague
While the Hurricanes have an extremely deep young blueline group, featuring Jank, Gravel, Ismael-Diaby, Koekkoek, Glukhov, and Moberg, none of thee above are really offensive dynamos from the back end. Clague projects as being fine defensively but also as a PP specialist for a team that will be in need of one long-term once Pitkanen leaves.

2 - #56 - C Brayden Burke
While the Canes have absolutely no shortage of guys already in place that can distribute the puck and put it in the net, Burke looks to be a slick playmaker going forward and could be useful long-term to a team that's retooling a bit over the next 3 or so seasons.

3 - #86 - G Adam Brizgala
A year after taking Felix Sandstrom in the first someone with possibly even higher upside, though less consistency, somehow stuck around until the 3rd round of action in this draft. The one-two punch long-term for the Canes of Sandstrom-Brizgala should have a team that's already sound defensively supported by a tandem that ranks right at the top of the league.

5 - #146 - D Sean Day
AHL depth

6 - #176 - C Beck Malenstyn
AHL depth

7 - #206 - C Mathieu Sevigny
Nice PF for the AHL level
