Gave it a spin. At the risk of being unnecessarily vicious to one of the seminal 'grunge' bands of the early 90s, whose 'superunknown' definitely got a few plays when I was into that stuff about a decade ago, they didn't really strike me as the kind of group capable of making a play for renewed relevance, a la Dinosaur Jr. Given the efforts of the downright irritating Audioslave and Pearl Jam's steady march into dad rock blather, maybe my expectations were lowered. At best, it's a reaffirmation of the original article, a stirring tribute to a band from a time and place - at worst, it reminds me of Audioslave/latter-day Foo Fighters/Pearl Jam/anything remotely attached to the Smashing Pumpkins since 1998, and that nostalgia is a gnawing illness not unlike gout. King Animal sounds a lot like the vintage thing, which is to say... it could be worse, and anyone who loves Soundgarden won't be disappointed.

This song depressed the hell out of me today (ask Dan, I wouldn't leave him alone for an hour on MSN), but it's kick ass and I can thrive off misery if I have to.

Hard to name just one. Big fan of Sick Of It All, Madball, Foo Fighters, Good Riddance, Face To Face...

Man, I forgot how sick that song by The Ernies was. Might be playing some THPS tonight now. THPS2 was my favorite of the series, but you can't beat the music from the first one.
