1. Philip Broberg (potential talent level - ELITE D)
Broberg also made it to the NHL this past season and crowned it with the Stanley Cup, just like the rest of the team. And not only he was able to keep up with the rest of the squad during his playing time but he was an important piece to make it all happen. He played the top-4 role each night while facing the best or one of the best players of the opposing team all the time and he did very well. His defensive play is already at elite NHL level, only his offensive skills require some time and work in order for him to become a complete elite defenseman that he is projected to become.

2. Arthur Kaliyev (potential talent level - TOP LINE F)
AK-34 also made his NHL debut right away in this past season and he was just EXCELLENT. He played 39 games in his debut season and was on pace to score 63 points! And he also delivered some crushing hits along the way. What's not to like, right? His offensive number fell off a little bit in the play-off but that's normal since there is more goals scored during the regular NHL season and the competition is tougher in the post-season. The best is yet to come for the young scoring winger as he still can be even better offensively. Especially, his shot can be a lethal weapon in the next season as Arthur promised to work hard on this.

3. Braden Schneider (potential talent level - TOP-FOUR D)
Braden Schneider has been just drafted in the first round and he is projected to become a very reliable defensive defenseman, first and foremost. More on his project in scouting report.

4. Alex Vlasic (potential talent level - TOP-FOUR or TOP-SIX D)
Alex Vlasic, a cousin of Marc-Edouard, comes as a surprise here. He was drafted last year in 4th round, with a little bit of hope to become what he is projecting to become. He showed up this year and he seemed like a different player compared to what he looked like when he was 17. Suddenly, our coaches see a defenseman with top-four potential in him.

5. Daniil Misyul (potential talent level - TOP-FOUR or TOP-SIX D)
Daniil Misyul also has one of his family members already in the NHL, his brother Oleg (who by the way spent some short time in Dallas too). Daniil projects to be a solid reliable two-way defenseman. He already signed an ELC with the team but opted to stay in Russia for this season though. He is slighted to join the Stars in 2021.

DALLAS STARS Top 5 Prospects / 2021

1. Charlie McAvoy (ELITE LOW)
Even though Charlie McAvoy is 23 already. he's still young and unexperienced enough to be called as prospect. Not old enough to be called project too. Surprisingly, McAvoy, a former 1st round pick (drafted 12th overall in 2016 draft) has been placed on waivers and claimed by Dallas Stars. But he has a tremendous potential in him to be highly skilled both offensively and defensively. While he's maybe not as big as the majority of the Dallas Stars defense, he's a different kind of monster. He won't shoot down his opponent by a big hit, but he can disarm his opponent by his excellent checking and positioning ability and quickly turn defense into offense with his puck-moving ability and hard slapshot from the point. By numbers, he will probably develop into 76 OFF and 84 DEF defenseman. Therefore, he can play top minutes and become one of the best defensemen in the system. He will be given top 4 minutes this season to reach his celling as quickly as possible.

2. Braden Schneider (TOP 4 D HIGH)
Braden Schneider was ranked third as a team's top prospect last year, so he moved up a little in the ranking. Braden got a little taste of NHL last season and also in the play-offs and he was steady. Very reliable in his own end. While his offensive upside is not very high, his main strength is his defensive zone and he has a potential to be one of the best defensive defenseman in the league. Therefore, he looks to be a perfect linemate for a two-way puck moving defenseman like Chychrun who can do it all and Schneider can just have his back anytime he needs or to play alongside newly acquired more offensively skilled defensemen like Montour, McAvoy or Reunanen down the road. There is a lot of good young defensemen knocking on the door in the Dallas Stars depth chart so it can be harder for him to get a lot ice time this year, but he just turned 20 so it's okay for him to continue to develop his game in Texas for the time being. But he looks to be the first man to be called up in case of injury.

3. Alex Vlasic (TOP 6 HIGH)
Alex Vlasic, a cousin of Marc-Edouard, comes as a surprise here. He was drafted last year in 4th round, with a little bit of hope to become what he is projecting to become. He showed up this year and he seemed like a different player compared to what he looked like when he was 17. Suddenly, our coaches see a defenseman with top-four potential in him, or top-six defenseman in the worst case. Just like Schneider, Vlasic also got a little taste of action in the NHL in the last season and also in the playoffs and he didn't look green at all. Played reliable defensive hockey and also chipped in offensive here and there. His defensive game looks to be very good even today, but he needs to work on his puck-moving ability. He looks to get a ton of minutes down in Texas and can jump up to play with the big boys if needed as well.

4. Janis-Jerome Moser (TOP 6 HIGH)
Janis-Jerome Moser is a swiss defenseman, who is a bit of late-bloomer, as he was drafted in the first round this year as a 21-year old. What could be perceived as a risky move, it doesn't look that way for the Dallas Stars scouting department at all. Moser is already a captian of his team EHC Biel-Biienne in top pro league in Switzerland. He looks mature and turned some heads in training camp, because he didn't look like rookie but like a veteran already. He was signed to his ELC right away and he will get a lot of minutes down in Texas Stars.


5. Alex Cotton (TOP 6 MED)
Yet another defenseman, Alex Cotton has been drafted in 3rd round in 2020. Alex Cotton is not faithful to his surname at all, because he's big hard hitting abrasive defenseman who also has a decent puck-moving ability. He's a prototypical two-way defenseman. He looks to be NHL material but he needs to work on his skating to really underline it and to convince Dallas Stars management about it. Cotton will play for Texas Stars down in the AHL next season and will have plenty of time to work on his game there.

Honorable mention goes to goalie Colten Ellis. He's very Hellberg-like and managment definitely likes that.
