Ranking all Oilers prospects...so from 1st to 2nd

Post by Edmonton Mike »

1. LUCAS RAYMOND

Lucas Raymond was acquired in the off-season and will be assigned to Bakersfield as the organization's U20 player. Raymond's offensive potential is something to be extremely excited about; great shot, terrific playmaking and elite stickhandling. Physicality will never be part of his game, but that's not to say he is a unidimensional forward, because he's not. While the Oilers shouldn't expect him to be considered for the Selke Trophy, Raymond does play a solid and reliable defensive game and it isn't far-fetched to think he could be a regular penalty killer.

Potential: Future 30 goal, 70 point top line winger who could be in Edmonton a year from now.

2. GUILLAUME RICHARD

Drafted in the 2nd round, Guillaume Richard is your typical stay-at-home blueliner: nothing flashy but reliable defensively and physical. The Oilers see him as a better Daniel Gunnarsson. Richard is far from a polished player and needs to get stronger, but the potential is there to become a regular NHL player. He will be returning to the OHL this year and be looking to join Bakersfield as a U20 player next year.

Potential: Bottom pair defenseman and penalty killer with 170 hits, 130 takeaways per season.
