Garden State of Decay

Post by SharksGM »

New New Jersey Times

Just as the New Jersey Devils evidently fired all of their scouting staff prior to the 2021 EHEC Entry Draft and were forced to rely on ISS/CSB rankings and hfboards for their draft picks, this august publication has stretched its resources to the limit to bring you this belated report that meets the bare minimum legal standards for journalism.

#7 OV: Fyodor Svechkov. Smart, savvy, and a fierce competitor, Svechkov has all of the makings of an excellent two-way center who can't really score or hit. In that sense, he is an upgrade on last year's choice of Dylan Holloway. In both cases, the scoring-starved Devils would have been better off selecting one of the next two picks (Amirov in 2020, Guenther in 2021).

#36 OV: Isak Rosén. A speedy, skilled and smart but undersized winger - yes, we've seen this before. Rosén, though, is genuinely great value at his position, and projects at least as well as fellow prospects Jakob Pelletier (#25, 2019) and Samuel Fagemo (#56, 2018 - a rare great find for the Devils).

#66 OV: Oscar Plandowski. A well-developed (for his age) defenseman with good hands and great speed, Plandowski doesn't really excel at anything besides skating and is more likely to light up the farm than play a major role in the big league.

#96 OV: Cole Jordan. Part of a long line of successful Anglo-Canadian kids with interchangeable first and last names, Cole has strength (of the heart) and intangibles of the largely non-existent. His puck skills and skating leave something to be desired - specifically, basically everything.

#103 OV: Martin Rysavy. Like Jordan Cole, this rugged winger is ahead of the physical development curve. More of a playmaker than a scorer, Rysavy plays with an edge, but mostly safely and not like running with scissors or anything dangerous like that. While he's not likely to amount to much more than an all-star farmer, he's fair value for a mid fourth round pick and I don't see you training to become a star athlete so who are you to judge, anyway?
