I assume you mean max on Toews and half of max on Frolik, but just to clarify:

In order to facilitate
trading of potentially overpaid players, teams may opt to retain salary on one or more of the players they are trading away, according to the following rules:
3. Teams may choose to retain a maximum of 50% of a player's cap hit
for the next two seasons of their contract, including the current season. i.e. if a player has 3 years remaining on their contract, only 1/6 + 1/6 = 1/3 of the total value may be retained.
5. The cap hit of the retained player is reduced by an amount equal to the total retention, spread evenly over the remaining contract. i.e. if a player has 3 years remaining on their contract, and 1/3 of the total is retained, the player's cap hit is reduced to 2/3 of its current total.
6. The retaining team may choose to spread the retention penalty over either 1 or 2 seasons. E.g if retaining 50% of a 2y, 2M contract, the retention penalty may be either 2y 1M or 1y 2M.
So the max you can retain is:
Toews: 6.2M*0.5*2y = 6.2M total (reduces his cap hit to 4.13333M x 3y; I will need to add a provision for rounding to the nearest 50k here); retention of 3.1M/y x 2y.
Frolik: 6.1M*0.5*2y = 6.1M total (reduces his cap hit to 4.06666M x 3y), retention of 3.05M/y x 2y. If you want to retain half of the max, that's 3.05M total, reducing his cap hit to 5.083, retaining 1.525M/y x 2y.

Toews at max retention and Frolik at half max retention is what I agreed to, so these numbers are ok for me.

Which number is calculated on the cap for the next 2 years for Toews
3.1 or 4.13?

I believe that I will be paying Toews 4.13/yr for each of his 3 remaining years, and you'll be paying him 3.1m/yr for the next 2 seasons.
