With the free agency just starting up, the Dallas Stars not waited too long to bolster their roster by signing centreman Bryan Bickell and wingers Logan MacMillan and Scott Laughton.

Bickell (29), played in all 82 regular season games last season, as a New York Islander, scoring 7 goals and collecting 17 points. He will likely fight for a spot in the bottom six in Dallas.

MacMillan (26), a long-time Anaheim Duck, played in 65 games last season, scoring 12 goals and posting 26 points respectively. He can become a valuable asset on the penalty-kill due to his defensive awareness and a quick shot, which he likes to use on breakaways in shorthanded situations.

Laughton (21), played in 73 games last season as Philadelphia Flyer, posting five goals and eight assists. He will fight for a roster spot in the training camp.

More to come.

Five days after the first catch of three signings (Bickell, MacMillan and Laughton) from the opening day of the free agency, Dallas Stars contunies to strenghten the depth of the organization by signings of the veteran defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo and the two returnees; Rocco Grimaldi and Benoit Pouliot.

Colaiacovo (32), played in all 82 regular season games last season as a member of the Anaheim Ducks, in which he scored 3 goals and assisted on 20 of others, collecting 23 points overall and ended up with a +5 rating. Colaiacovo should add good leadership and stability coming from his vast experience and should serve as the 6-7 defenseman.

Grimaldi (22), played in 27 AHL games last season in which he managed to score 4 goals and assist on 16 of others, collecting 20 points overall. Grimaldi should provide skill and also leadership for the younger guys down in Texas.

Pouliot (28), has played in 61 games last season for Texas Stars, with a record of 6 goals and 22 assists, collecting 28 points respectively. Same as above mentioned Grimaldi; Pouliot - as the eldest member of the Texas Stars - should provide skill and a good leadership coming from his amount of experience and should markedly strenghten the centreman position in Texas.

As the off-season slowly comes to an end, Dallas Stars has completed the signing of winger Will Merchant (21) who as part of the New Jersey Devils organization, played the whole season for Albany Devils in the American Hockey League where he as a rookie, collected 8 points (4 goals + 4 assists) in 79 games. He is likely to join the young group of guys down in Texas Stars for this upcoming season. Merchant has been signed to a two-year, two-way deal.

Meanwhile, I'd like to start seeing regular season projections written up for each team. Tell me how you think you'll do this year... (Post in Team News.)
I think that the Dallas Stars are going to win the central division and the desired goal for this season is to get through the first round of play-offs. After (or IF) we manage to achieve that, we'll see where it will lead eventually.

The regular season has come to an end and here we are: expectations met! :) Who really expected that?

Let's see how will the Stars do in the play-offs. It's gonna be fun.

"It's the 20th of June, 2016. It's that time of the year when the season is finally over and we have our new Stanley Cup winners. In this season, it was the Dallas Stars' overcomers, the Winnipeg Jets. One could say, it makes the loss even bitter or can it be percieved also the other way around? It depends a lot on your personal perspective.
Today, we're going to ask the Dallas Stars GM."

Q:"How do you look at the last season today?"

A:"Well, how did the play-offs play out. It was bitter. The first couple of days after that loss were heartbreaking. Dissapointing. Everybody was dissapointed. The staff, the players and me too. We've put a lot of work into this team, to get better. We all felt demotivated. But as the time passed, I think we all feel better about it and we're proud of all the things we've done. We have excellent fanbase and they understand the whole situation. Everybody knows we're just rising up, getting better with every week and month. And it will take years and the fans know it. We know it (the staff) and players know it too. So we're not blaming anybody. We know we did all we could and we have achieved our goals set before the season (author note: to get through first round of play-offs) and we even almost overcame it. We were very close to get through that second round. But Winnipeg were just better and eventually, won the cup. Which makes it all even bitter, but at the other hand, it means that we were defeated by the best team in the league which is not so bad. So, in order to achieve even greater goals, we have to keep moving forward. And we will definitely do so. So, to answer your question: I rate the last season positively. It was a very good season and we're in perspective to have even better season next year. We have to progress step by step. Time will tell how big those steps will be."

Q:Can we except some major changes in the line-up and in the team system in the next season?

A:Major changes? I wouldn't say so. But ...
(the reoprter jumps into the GM's answer)

Q: ...because we've seen some rather big trades happening in the recent days. Can you provide us with a bit more of an insight to the team's plans, regarding roster transactions?

A: Yes, I think I can. But let me finish the sentence (laughs). We made some major trades that we, hope will have a big positive impact on the team going forward. We traded one of our best forwards in Telegin (plus some prospects, namely: Barbashev, Lauzon, Collins), but we've got a very valuable asset in return, which we're going to use in the best way we can. When you take a look at the roster, you'll see that there's a lot good, talented forwards, a lot of two-way forwards who can play hard and we needed to add some offensive talent in the top 6. We traded for Havlat on the trade deadline, but it didn't worked out so well for both sides...

Q: So, Havlat isn't staying with the team, right?

A: No, he will hit the unrestrected free agency.

Q: So, there's a hope that Brassard can fill those shoes, right?

A:Yes, we believe that Brassard is what we were looking for. There's a belief he will fit very good along with sniper like Mike Cammalleri who was also brought during the course of the last season and should fit in just fine along Grigorenko.
The plan is that, we will go ahead with the first line with Cammalleri on the left wing, Grigo on the dot and Brassard helping to make plays, from the right wing. Of course, it can change on the fly, but we think that there's a good probability that the line composed like this that can achieve very good results together. That's why we made that trade.

Q: There was a rumor that Cammalleri will be named a new captain. Now that Derek Morris is gone. Can you comment on that?

A: Yes, Mike will be the new team's captain. Everything will be soon officially announced. The team is now in a process of picking of his assistants.

Q: Also, MacMillan was included in the trade. How are you going to fill the hole left after his departure?
A: Yes, we liked MacMillan and he also liked it here, but that's business. We didn't wanted to give him up but we had to. The blues ware showing interest in him some time ago, so that's how the puzzle was completed. He was signed as an UFA in the summer and he did a very good job for us. We're going to fill a hole after him by promoting the bluechip prospect, Pavel Buchnevich. He should be ready for the NHL now. Now it'll be up to him on how he will take his chance on that. Undoubtedly, he'll be given the opportunity. We also recieved the rights to another young russian forward from Anaheim (author note: in exchange for 5th round pick), Ilya Korenev who can also jump up and play in the NHL. And with Brassard coming in, we can move the depth chart up and down a bit, so definitely, there will be no empty slots left upfront. Actually, we're loaded on the offense. That's also one of the key reasons we've traded Telegin.

Q: So, the rumors are true. Are Dallas Stars going to draft a defenseman from that 7th pick?
A: I don't think I have the priviledge to either confirm it or deny it and I don't think anybody does. And it's not so clear matter anyway, because we also have some great prospects on the blueline down in Texas, like Meloche, Heatherington, Coulombe and Murphy. Murphy is expected to go up and play the NHL in the next season and we have faith in his abilities. The others mentioned still need some time to grow and fully develop. Oh, and yes, Schmaltz is also expected to become a regular for our big team.

(The moderator confidently announces: "Last question now folks".)

Q: What's the status on the expiring UFAs and RFAs in the team? Is it true that Markstrom will not be re-signed? Can we except some more trades in the next days?

A: That's three questions (laughs). But that's not a problem, I'm more than happy to answer them all. The first question: Hmm, I think I will answer first two question both together. Markstrom and the other RFAs and UFAs. Chris Phillips and
Chris Drury are going to retire and they're going to announce it officially shortly. Martin Havlat, David Rodman, Brandon Pirri and Partick Koudys will not be-resigned. We're still considering re-signing Markstrom and Lupul and we're working on new extensions with Fedor Tyutin, Kyle Quincey, Mark Jankowski, Ilya Korenev and Ivan Bocharov. I also heard from Stu Barnes (Texas Stars GM) that he'd like to have Krestchmann back on the team. I was also given an information that Zlobin is going to sign with the team from the KHL and therefore, his contract will be cancelled. And the last question... What was it? I can't remember.

Q: ... if we can except some more trades in the next days?

A: Oh, not really, I don't think we can. Markstrom and Lupul have been put on the block so maybe they can be traded around the draft period but that's all for now, I guess. Or at least, as far as I can tell.

Have a nice day all of you.

BREAKING! Dallas Stars to fire HC Taylor?

Dallas Stars GM has just told the reporters that he will adress the Head Coach situation during the All-Star Break as he explained: "The team is not playing to its full potential and capabilities. We are evaluatiing some candidates who could get more from the team we have because I am convinced that we can do much better. Some [possible candidates] from within the organization will be consided too".

The current Head Coach Dave Taylor is/was the Dallas Stars Head Coach before GM M. Brichta took over the team. If he would be fired, he would be the first casuality during the MB's tenture.

More to come.

NEWS! Guy Carbonneau: named as Dallas Stars new head coach.

It was revealed that Dave Taylor will no longer be a head coach of the Dallas Stars, as he was just officialy released of his duty, as has been notified on the press conference which has just been held. The vacant position of the Dallas Stars Head Coach has been given to the former Stanley Cup Champion, Guy Carbonneau who also held the cup above his head in the Dallas Stars jersey back in 1999. The organization of Dallas Stars also thanked Dave Taylor for his tireless work and service and wished him good luck in the future, whatever avenue Mr. Taylor will choose in his future.

The regular season is over now. Perfect time to get some resume and look back on what happened during the course of the 2017/18 regular season.

When you look at the team's history, it's impossible not to note, that this has been the most successful season in the span of the last 5 years. And to surprise, next january it'll be 5 years already since Martin Brichta took over as the gm of the Dallas Stars. Time flies. This is the first thing that comes to mind. And markedly, it's good to say this cliché, because if it would be stated that time is dragging on for too long, it would describe struggle and tough times. But it wasn't all about winning. It wasn't ups without the downs. When the MB took over as a GM, it was a little over the half-time of the regular season and there was just a little over 30 games left to play. The team has made a push to jump from 13th to 10th place in the conference, even when the gm himself, stated very clearly, that reaching play-off that year is not an ultimate goal and plead the fans for patience as he was about to do a re-build on the fly, as he's not a fan of tanking and / or losing on purpose is not how he imagines sports and competition. so, he found himself holding a double-sided sworn in his hands and undoubtebly, ready to do changes and to fight. In the name of the progress. In a name of the victory. Somewhere. Some time. But it was always there. Inside.
He brought ambition and winning mentality. Maybe too stubborn at times, maybe a little difficult, maybe little controversial but always tenacious. 100%. Aiming to win. No matter what.

The team didn't made the play-offs, so it left more time for the newly formed management since MB fired almost all of the previous staff members and recruited many new ones. Made a lot of trades, draft picks and some of them already turned to great players in the league. Worthy of mention: Jakob Chychrun, Conner Bleackley, Nikita Scherbak, Colin White, Nicolas Meloche and many more. And then the puzzle has been put together, piece-by-piece-by-piece. And that it all seemed to work. The team made the play-offs in the first full year of his tenture as a gm, even though it was very, very close. Then the next year, the team overcame 100 points marker with excellent 106 points in the 2015-2016 and almost repeated this respectable result in the next season, when the team managed to collect 101 points. And now we've got the next season in the books. And like previously mentioned, this has been the best season in the team with 113 points. Fact worthy of notion: The only time dallas stars managed to collect more points in the regular season was the season when dallas Stars have won their only stanley cup back in 1999 in the modano-
Hull-neuwendyk-lehtinen-belfour-hatcher-zubov era. At that time, Dallas Stars collected just one more point than they did in this season. So, based on all the stats and information, this looks like a team that could make a serious run for the stanley cup again.

Let's look back on top 10 reasons which may have and problably have caused the season to be succesful:

1. Getting Markstrom signed again as an ufa. Jacob Markstrom has had a good history with the stars but he have been traded before for 2nd round pick and Carey Price, but Price haven't lived up to his expectation somehow as he hasn't been able to even match markstrom records from the past and thus, became more of a burden than a reinforcement, due to his high cap hit. So the team found a way to have him gone again. Then the Dallas Stars managment to turned to Jacob Markstrom in the ufa period during last summer and got him signed for the next year.
2. Dallas Stars already signed another goalie as a UFA to be Jacob's backup for the next season. Harri Sateri who started terribly, then managed to get better a little bit but the management has decided that change is needed. Then
Harri Sateri has been traded for Tuukka Rask to Edmonton Oilers. Harri was signed on a rather cheap contract which has been appreciated by the oilers managment. And Tuukka has found his game again in the Dallas Stars uniform as he's performing at Jacob's level to say the least, or even overcame in the last period of the regular season. what's leaving MB with a good problem to have. Two great goalies. So who will get the nod in the playoffs? Martin Brichta says that he's still undecided and it'll come down to an inner feeling – an instict.
„I don't feel like we have a starter and a backup goalie. I feel like we have two great goalies that are good buddies and both happy to play for the team with a competitive spirit that brings a smile to my face and to all of our staff members and to many players as well. What a great enviroment. I'd call this as an ideal state of which all gms dream of. Every day – every night“ – were mb's words from the last week press conference.

3. JAKOB CHYCHRUN GROWTH. A ROOKIE. WHO'S ARGUABLY THE TEAM'S 1ST D.

4. ACQUISTION OF DANIEL KREJCI. WAS IT EXPENSIVE? YES IT WAS. Two first round picks. Did you hear the fans complaining at first? Yes. Is anybody speaking about it right now. No. Not at all. It was just worth it.

5. Nicolas Meloche growth. Not many around the league expected this. For Meloche to become such a force. Yes, a lot of hockey-minds have seen some potential for him to become a regular nhl defenseman sooner or later, but definitely not this quick and not this good. And he can get only better with time. And getting playoff experience is a great means to achieve it. Oh and yes, have you ever seen Nicolas to be nervous? Have you ever seen Jakob Chychrun to be nervous? They're poised like they would have like 10 seasons in the nhl already under their belts.

6. Kitsyn trade. For Poehling...oh and yes, it was worth it.

Kadri-Grigorenko refined. Wait, what? Who? By who?

Ladies and gentlemen. His name goes by Maxim Kitsyn. Another russian. They do so well in the state of Texas, aren't they?. So you can often hear shout commands and advices in russian language on ice. Most of the time it's maxim yelling at Mikhail as he's waiting to get a pass from him resulting from the rush or even from the fac-off circle, as Mikhail Grigorenko have won almsot 70% of all face-offs. One of the best, if not the best, in the league in this field.

7. Cogs factor. Andrew Cogliano has been another, rather expensive addition to the team. He had cost another two first rounders just like defenseman Daniel Krejci and again, worth every penny. He was consistent all year. Like a machine. Even if the rest of the team has been down, he was up and running and led the team by example. He's the unsung hero but he is due to get his credit. He deserved every bit of that.

8. Saad. Being a beast. Again. Nothing more to say

9. Burakowsky. Being a beast. As well. And again.

10. Logan Shaw-Drew Shore addition. They improved the team's pk so much. Dallas Stars have been one of the worst on the penalty kill last year. Well, they're still not the best but at least they're average and that is also quite an accomplishment.

More to come soon.

Dallas Stars sign 6 free agents

The Dallas Stars have announced the signings of multiple free agents during the free agency period.
Most notable are the signings of young forwards with NHL experience, namely the returner Zemgus Girgensons (24) and then, a newcomer Adam Lowry (25) and and the most experienced signee is hard-hitting defenseman, Vitali Anikeyenko(31). And simillar to him, there will be also another newcomer from Russia with a chance to get a shot on the blue-line for the Stars, for Evgeni Gureyev (23). The remaining two free agents are two young talented forwards Pavel Jenys (22) and Alexander Henriksson (23), who has been drafted by the Dallas Stars back in 2013 but never given a real chance with the organization, so he'll get a fresh start.

Dallas Stars organization wishes all the players best of luck in the future.

PRE-SEASON EXPECTATIONS ON PLAYERS
PLAYER-BY-PLAYER

GOALIES

Jacob Markstrom
Fight for the starter job with Rask

Tuukka Rask
Fight for the starter job with Markstrom

Jon Gillies
Provide good goaltending on some stretches
in the NHL, if needed and dominate the AHL.
Maybe you can claim the backup spot. Anything can happen.

Ivan Bocharov
Work on consistency. Get some more AHL
experience. We know that you are talented.

DEFENSEMEN

Jakob Chychrun
Comlpetely confirm your domination in the NHL
as one of the best defenseman in the league.
Collect at least 45 points.
You will be promoted to be an assistant to our captain.

Nicolas Meloche
Do your best to be the best defensive-partner
and try to match Chychrun's abilities if possible.
Develop puck-moving, playmaking ability fully to
your potential.

Gustav Forsling
Become simillar player like Chychrun. Obviously,
Chychrun is tremendous talent, but you are actually
not that far to have the potential to perform that
well like him, in some games at least.

Brien Diffley
Be a solid bottom-pairing defenseman. You don't have
to collect 30-35 points, just play solid hockey
and end up being + in +/- stat.

Vitali Anikeyenko
Become a solid stample on the PK, as leader
of the d-corps on a PK. Hit anything that moves!

Tory Dello
You have all the neccessary talent to become a solid
NHL defensemen. Second-pairing probably. Continue to
develop your puck-moving ability and shot.
You are expected to show some promise in the NHL
this season. You are the 7th defenseman on our depth
chart. Work hard!

Jonas Siegenthaler
You have already shown some flashes of your talent
in the AHL. You have to continue in your development
this season, in order to become a useful defenseman
in the NHL. You remind us our former defenseman:
Kyle Quincey. Show us that you can be like him.
Or even better!

Christian Jaros
We have brought you to learn with Siegen, to become
useful NHL defenseman one day. You also remind us
of one of our former defenseman: Cam Barker. Cam played
with Kyle a lot. Can you do the same with Jonas?
We will give you the real opportunity. Use it.

Andreas Englund
You are solid, young, defensive defensman that
can provide us good depth for the NHL anytime we need.
That's something we really do appreciate.
You'll be given "A" in the next season for your effort. (in Texas)
If you continue to work hard like this, we might
give you a chance to play some NHL games next season and
we'll go from there.

Evgeni Gureyev
You remind us Vitali Anikeyenko a little bit.
Of course, we also see all the intagibles that
you bring to the table and we are very well aware of that.
If you work on your endurance, we might give you a chance
to play in the NHL. You could be a good substitution
for Anikeyenko if needed.

Jarred Tinordi
Back in the day, you were seen as a quality shut-down
defenseman and that's exactly you were drafted in the first round.
We still see that potential in you. Your exaggerated
aggresion can be a downside, at times. Try to work on it.
This looks like your last chance to make it to the NHL.
Use the opportunity! You can be a real warrior, anytime
we need one.

Jordan Sambrook
You are the youngest defenseman on our team. We see some
interesting qualities in you. Especially, your shot, playmaking
and hitting ability. Work hard. You will have the chance
to play a lot of AHL games next season.

FORWARDS

Nazem Kadri
Score at least 35+ goals and collect more than 75 points.

Mikhail Grigorenko
Continue in getting better, just like you did season after season,
Can you score more than 85 points this season?
We believe you can do it.
You are the captain of the team.
The team is yours to lead to the glory.

Maxim Kitsyn
You fit well to our elite-line. We were not surprised, as opposed to
the rest of the NHL - because we believed in you.
Make or break season for you. Prove everybody wrong!
Can you keep up with your line-mates? Collect 70+ points.

Brandon Saad
You have been one of the best player for the team over the
course of the last couple of seasons. Just keep playing the way
you do. Can you get back to 60+ points campaign?
If you collect at least 55 points, we'll be happy.
We are also proud to let you know that you have been promoted
to be an assistent to the captain. Have a great season.

Alexander Galchenyuk
After a rather slower start, after you came late last season,
you played better and better, and you were outstanding in the
play-offs. Pick up where you left off! Collect 65+ points.

Andre Burakowsky
Injuries did hurt you again last season.
Can you avoid them in the next season? We hope so.
We need you to play as much as possible.
We expect you to be the best goalscorer of our team.
You're a real sniper. Can you score 40+ goals?

Mark Jankowski
You will be given an excellent opportunity to play
on our stronrg third-line with excellent new teammates.
Can you collect 45+ points this time?

Conner Bleackley
Welcome back Bleak! It's been a while. Can you get back
to your game here in Dallas again? Collect 50+ points.

Joel Armia
Joel, welcome back as well. Get to know with your line-mates.
We expect big things from our third-line. Can you convert
on feeds from your line-mates? We expect you to become a dark-horse
of the team and score 35+ goals.

Alexander Dergachyov
We expected you to make it to the NHL last season but somehow,
it didn't work out for you. We can see that you're ready, so
can you take the next step? We are providing you with a slot
to play as much as possible. Have a good rookie season!

Zemgus Girgensons
Welcome back Zemgus! You are our forth-line centreman.
We like the fact that you can change the course of the game with
your toughness, pugnacity and agitating qualities alone. You are
also skilled offensively. Can you collect 30+ points and stand
up for your teammates?

Tyler Seaman
We expect you to fight for the 4C spot. You had a good start
to your rookie season but then you slacked off a bit. Can
you rebound? We like the fact that you have a potential to win
70% of the face-offs!

Drew Shore
You've been a great waiver pick-up before the start of the last
season, do you remember? We liked you since day one and we
are happy that you have developed fully to your potential
here in Dallas. We expect the same level of play from you
in the next season. Continue to be one of the best PK players
in the league.

James Winkler
We can see the potential in you. You are true power-forward
who can score some big goals and deliver crushing hits.
Can you take your game to the next level? It seems like you
will not start the season in the NHL, but you are one of first guys
on our queue to be called up.

Vladislav Kamenev
You are simillar player to Winkler. You will be playing together
on our first-line in Texas and you are one of the first guys
on our queue to be called up to the NHL.

Alexander Henriksson
Our team drafted you before I have become the GM of this team.
But I can clearly see why we drafted you. You are still young
player with nice offensive skills. You are a sniper in the making.
Work hard to develop fully. I hope that our coaches can
improve your skating though.

Quentin Shore
We already had Drew and Nick -- your brothers here.
Why not bring the third-one? You are solid
C/RW who can provide us depth if needed.
Can you also be the leader on and off the ice for
the Texas Stars?
You will be the captain of the team.

Adam Lowry
You were one of our first signees in the free agency
this summer so there's definitely something
we see in you. We know you can score some goals
and deliver crushing hits. In our perception,
you are Joel Armia type of player. Can you surprise
the rest of the NHL with your blend of size and skill?
You'll be given a chance.

Scott Laughton
On-and-on you have been given a chance to show something
in the NHL and every single time you have shown flashes of brilliance.
Depth is essential and you need to be deep on all positions.
This is what the top NHL management is being taught and I believe
it does not only apply for the NHL as it is. So you know, maybe
there wasn't as much of possibilities for you but we will give
you the opportunity again. You collected 12 points in 15
games for us in the NHL. Can you repeat it?

Mark McNeill
You're the new face. Welcome Mark. I know you've played all
82 regular season games in the last couple of seasons and
we are not sure we can assure you that in Dallas Stars.
You are pretty good two-way forward so maybe it says something
about the strength of our team. And I believe every good player
wants to play for the good team. We want to show you in action
and we'll see what we have in you.

Seth Ambroz
Since day one we signed, you were a bit of project. We wanted
to give you some NHL time and you know what? You were very close
to reach that. We like your booming shot and your checking and hitting
ability - that's Dallas Star prototype player. We just need you
to continue your road. Work hard on your endurance and your strength
level and we'll go from there.

Juuso Ikonen
Juuso. You remind us of Sebastian Collberg, you were teammates
last season. You are a talenterd sniper wit blazing speed
and great discipline. That is something we value highly.
But your level of consistency cocnerns us a little bit. But hey,
you collected 4 points in 4 games last season. We know that
you deserve the chance. Work hard in the pre-season.
We need a scoring right-winger!

Pavel Jenys
Pavel. You were one of the first free agents signings
this summer for us. Our scouts have seen something in you and
maybe you don't know - but we have scouted you in the past.
We like your shot and your hitting ability. You have scored
31 goals in the AHL last season. That is your way to go.
We will watch you more cllosely now.

Liam Foudy
You were our first drafted player in the latest draft and
you are our youngest player on the team. Congratulations and welcome.
We like your versatility and you can be a capable NHL center.
We are happy to have you here. Enjoy your AHL rookie year.
The pressure is off.

Daniel Audette
Daniel, how's your father? You are simillar to him.
Just like him, you have nice offensive potential.
We know that you can explode offensively --your playmaking
ability potential is elite. Your shot is pretty good as well.
You're a dangler. Your stickhandling ability is just unbelievable.
You can fly out there. And you are also aware of your limitations due to your smaller size
and stature. Work hard in the gym and on the rink. Can you
surprise us and improve your checking and positional play
to a higher level than expected? We'll be happy to see you develop.
Enjoy your rookie AHL season!

Emile Poirier
We love your tenacity and your compete level. You are a former
first round pick and we know that there are some good reasons for it.
You have the potential to be an elite-sniper and yet, you lack
a little bit of vision, playmaking ability. Your stickhandling
ability can make up for it a bit, though. Sometimes you take stupid penalties
but you have our encouragment to stand up for your teammates
and drive the opposing players crazy.

Paul Bittner
You are a bit of late-bloomer. You have a nice shot and you can do
good job in corner battles. You have scored only 30 points in your
sophomore AHL season. Can you collect at least 40 next season?
Good luck Paul!

Zach Nastasiuk
You remind us of Joffrey Lupul. We believe you have the potential
to become simillar player to him. But you had a down year last
season and you know that. (Only 26 points compared to 54 last season and
65 points before that). Get your game back. We expect you
to rebound.

Nicholas Shore
You are our AHL-all star forward. You'll be given an A while
your brother Quentin will be the captain (in Texas). Please, help the
younger players to adapt as fast as possible. We love
seeing you collecting point per game in the AHL. If anything happens,
and you keep your game at the same level or even improve it,
we might have an opening for you on the fourth line at some
point and we'll see how you do.

Are you saying negativity CAN'T make you a better person? Sounds rather pessimistic if you ask me.

Joonas Korpisalo will make his debut for the Dallas Stars as a starting goalie against Tampa Bay Lightning tonight.
Another Jonas, namely, Siegenthaler - a young swiss defenseman - will also make his NHL debut tonight as third-pairing defenseman alongside Vitali Anikeyenko who returns back into the line-up after being a healthy-scratch for the last couple of games.
Defensemen Alex Plante and Gustav Forsling will sit.
Alex Dergachyov has been sent back to Texas (AHL) to make room.

POSITIVES:
Maxim Kitsyn finds his groove and scores 2 in a 1-5 away win over Colorado Avalanche.
Joonas Korpisalo continues to impress in the net since the first day coming in.
Andre Burakowsky scores a goal and picks up an assist to confirm that he is on his way up again.
Coach Mike Modano has had a "...little bit of a struggle with some players that usually performed much better but, it can because of
the depth on offense is much more deeper and the competition between them in this season is as tight as ever and that's why
some players can find themselves getting little less ice-time like they usually had. But for example, since Burakowsky has been moved to third line,
he thrives. And some playersr, just surprassed some expactations and that's what causes us some of these - good problems - to have. Just take: Jankowski. Or Armia. Their play is next level this season. But they can't let up."
New-comer Ondrej Kase played in his debut and right away, he faced his former team and notched an assist.
Dallas Stars have converged on 4 out of 6 powerplay to maintain the league's best powerplay with 31,7% of success rate.

NEGATIVES:
Nicolas Meloche has looked a little bit out of place again. He doesn't seem to be that kind of a phenom like he was last year in his rookie season. Of course, he's just 21 and sometimes it takes more time for young defensemen to fully adjust and develop, so there's no reason to worry, yet.
It's just that the managment and lot of people around anticipated him to perform better like he has done so far. But it can turn around quickly.
The team has the league's best powerplays, and league's third-best penalty-killing and yet, the team is not in the top 5. They are not so far behind but it could be better. The reason is - even strength team's play has to be much more effective. The team doesn't seem to have any problem with scoring but the defending is worse. Lately, it's been getting better, though.
But wouldn't be surprised to see some forwards or two, to be traded for an NHL defenseman who could step in right away - as there's an evident surplus of forwards to the detriment of defense overall.

DEFENSE (MID-SEASON ANALYSIS)

We're winding a certain degree of uncertainty in the middle of this season for the Dallas Stars. It is not certain in what way the leadership of the organization chooses to go forward - whether it will be a step back with the hope of two or three steps ahead in either closer or more distant future, or whether it will stagnate or decide to go against the momentary trend and goes all-in to fight for the play-off spot with the hope of success in the Stanley Cup play-offs. You can sense some words repeated more often - words as hope and uncertainty.
The question is - why is that so?

As has been said, the Dallas Stars have been moving in the standings up and down, somewhere between the seventh and tenth spot in the last month in the Western Conference, and we all know that the spot which guarantees the play-offs is eighth place in the conference at worsrt. Since the time General Manager Martin Brichta took over, the Dallas Stars team has made the play-offs each season (except for the first one, but he took over during the course of - by the way, almost catastrophic season, in Dallas Stars standards, to say the least).

This team owns one of the best powerplays in the league and apparently does not have an issue with scoring, but when it comes to defense - it's not as good as it should be. Several veterans have left the team last season (Quincey, Barker) and apparently, it took its toll on the defense. The young core still can not fully replace these players and there is a problem rising up because of it, and instead of six defenders taking their spots, now there are 10 defensemen who have the potential for playing in the NHL, but it does not always fit into the puzzle. Something has to happen here. There have been new players like Gunnarsson and Mueller brought in who seem to be a solution but still it feels like the young elite defender, Chychrun, needs equally skilled partner by his side on the right side of the defensive top-pair. For the time being, Gunnarsson and Mueller alternate in this position. And while Meloche is an offensively very skilled young defensemen, he is probably in the category that can be called as top-4 defensemen, rather than the top-2 defenseman. Next, there are defensemen like Diffley, Blidstrand, McFaull, Anikeyenko, Forsling and the youngest talent Dello. It is also necessary to mention that there are great things expected from young defenseman, Erik Cernak, but he needs time to mature and fully develop his potential and it can take another year or two. So, management can choose to patiently wait for their young talented players to grow and to fully develop or opt for an aggressive approach to this emerging issue. It will be interesting to see what approach the organization will take as we move closer to the trade deadline.
