Updated for the most recent file.

Some teams are showing as over the underage limit but it seems my post for returning players to juniors was missed so it might just be that. They be:
Winnipeg = 3
Montreal = 12
New Jersey = 4
St. Louis = 3

And I suppose at some point I'm going to have to update my file for the new underage rules.

Teams showing as over the contract limit (presumably also in part because of missing junior returnees):

You have 58.12M on your roster right now, 1.696M in buyouts from previous GMs, 40k from Marcel Noebels being 24+ in the AHL and making over 800k, and 312k for Nikolai Prokhorkin for the same reason. Total 60.158M.

Haven't caught up on things just yet but looked into this and it's 80k and I'm guessing is caused by Hundertpfund. Seems to me you'd previously set things to be no less than 400k (the previous minimum possible for valid contracts) and, after the rollback, Hundertpfund's 400k became 320k.

Copied this post Dan made a year ago when I was confused about LTIR myself...

You basically only get as much LTIR as you need to replace your injured player.

If you're 1M under the cap and a 3M player gets injured and you don't call up a replacement by the next game, you get 2M LTIR to spend up to 72M.
If you're 3M under the cap and a 2M player gets injured and you don't change your roster, you get no LTIR at all.

Most teams are okay now, but WPG needs to lose a contract, and WPG, NYI and NAS need to drop about 4k, 40k and 400k, respectively.

Islanders and Nashville are both still over.
Winnipeg's fine - Morin's LTIR should be 2.4M, not 2.2, which is enough to bring them down to 58M for each game.
Calgary's projection is currently showing as over but only because they haven't demoted anyone after their deal with Buffalo yet.
Edmonton's currently over.

I thought I was, but apparently I wasn't. I think I was counting contracted juniors towards the roster limit. Anyway, that's fixed and I take back what I said - Nashville is definitely over.

Our today number all agree but CGY, DET, NAS, PHO and TOR are a bit off on to date... all for the same reason, perhaps? I'll have to check. Oh, your LTIR for Byfuglien is too high but it doesn't make a difference.

For Calgary, did you back out Elie and Geoffrion after the trade? Because they've had the same cap hit for every game.

For Detroit, I've had them at 57.551 for every game except their first (Oct 7th = 58.418).

Nashville you have to adjust their game on the 13th for being under the roster limit (they should have the same salary as on the 14th).

Arizona's difference is because of Hundertpfund. Have to back out the extra 80k you're adding to their salary each game.

For Toronto, I have 58.180 for their first game (Oct 7) and 57.920 for each game since.

And yeah, Edmonton probably shouldn't be getting more than Byfuglien's salary as LTIR room (I seem to have added the difference rather subtracting it).

That was because I had Vermette on LTIR for the first game, whereas I checked and he actually went DtD that day. Harsh. A few other teams have small differences left so I'll have to hunt those down.

In other news, you can find cap calculations in the cap subfolder whenever I upload the file, and from now on we'll be keeping a copy of players_cap.ehm with the file immediately after the sim but before entering any post-sim transactions (trades, signing, buyouts, etc.).

Note to anyone who cares (i.e. Vik):

McNeill should technically be at 0 LTIR, but that's because I messed up taking care of an orphaned team and didn't call up Lindblom ahead of time to play instead of that scrub Bittner. I'm retroactively ruling that Lindblom was up and McNeill gets his full salary on LTIR instead of nothing.

Projected has to be less than 58M at all times.

LTIR brings down your TODAY value if you're above the cap (58M). If you're below it, it doesn't matter. For example, Fowler's LTIR (5.786M) currently isn't doing anything for you since you're below 58M. If you were to go above 58M, your cap hit (TODAY value) would be either:
58M (for anything up to 63.786M)
or
your cap hit - 5.786M (for anything over 63.786M)

If you're trying to figure out your max allowable...

You need your average salary on game days to be below 58M for the entire season (ie your TODAY value for each game day of the season added up has to be below 4756M (58M * 82 GP)).

The way your TO DATE value is calculated is to take your TODAY value on each game day so far, add all those up, and divide by the number of games you've played (ie your average salary to now).

So to find the max allowable you take your TO DATE value (in your case, 54336844) and your GP value (43) and multiply them together (2336486012).

So you've used 2,336,486,012 of your 4,756,000,000 to date. That means you have 2,419,513,988 (4756000000 - 2336486012) to use for your remaining 39 games (82 - 43).

So your max allowable is the 2,419,513,988 spread out over 39 games, ie 2419513988 / 39 = about 62,038,820.

With LTIR, you can then exceed that limit by the amount of LTIR for however many games the player is injured. So with Fowler out for the rest of the season, you can go up to 67,824,820 (62038820 + 5786000) for the rest of the season.

If he was only out for a month, you could go up to that limit for the month he was injured and then would have to be back down to 62,038,820 when he became day-to-day.

So if I am understanding correctly:

Because of the Fowler injury, that can create additional cap space up until I add salary that exceeds his LTIR credit. Once I exceed the LTIR credit, I began to access the leverage I gained by being under 'To Date'.

When we get closer to the deadline, would it be possible to have a Maximum 'Today' Salary number including LTIR if the LTIR will be for the remainder of the regular season (Fowler injury).

If you want to know your max. cap hit with LTIR or your cap space, add your LTIR to either one. That's all.

You only get 5.786M for Fowler's LTIR.

I imagine my spreadsheet will be more accurate next year as I have a full history of my lineup caphit each game, but I am off a bit and I think that's is largely because of LTIR calculations, so I want to make sure I have the calculation right.

if ((LTIR + CapCeiling) < Caphit): #if the team is exceeding LTIR allowance
DailyCaphit = (Caphit - LTIR)/82 #
else:
DailyCaphit = CapCeiling

If the cap is well below the ceiling the LTIR doesn't play any effect.

Also, what is the "Capspace" supposed to be equal to? It doesn't quite add up to the cap mentioned above, so what does it represent?

Vik's 'today' says I am at 59366000 but shouldn't the hit only be 58 because of Fowler LTIR? Im sorry I am bad at math

Can someone just tell me how much space I have right now with Fowler LTIR and how much I will have at the deadline?

Your salaries are at 65.152M and Fowler's LTIR is 5.786M so 65.152 - 5.786 = 59.366M. I have your max at 64,179,793 so you've got almost 5M in space yet with Fowler out.
