6 games for Tim Gleason (PHI) for rather unnecessarily smashing Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson (PIT) for 3 months. It was his last day before retiring! ... to the golf course.
The Canucks barely miss out on the playoffs, since they needed to win in regulation, whereas Getzlaf remembered how to score goals just in time to keep the Sharks holding on to 8th with one battered fin (not talking about Koskenkorva). Meanwhile, thanks to their shootout victory, the Oilers take over 1st in the West, but they could immediately lose it to the Kings tomorrow.
Calgary still has a chance to tie for 8th if they win tomorrow. I did think of saying that they would lose any tiebreaker if it came to it but I mostly hoped it wouldn't. A charitable interpretation would give them 41 ROW right now (18 points = 9 extra losses) whereas an unforgiving one would give 32 (18 extra ties/SOL), and I'm all out of charity. Since CGY owns two 1sts from playoff teams, while Winnipeg owns CGY 1st, they're not going to pick first overall, but WPG has a chance.
And yes, just to clarify we're using the old playoff seeding format. We can discuss changes to that over the offseason. It's irrelevant in the East since the division winners are 1-3 anyways, but it does mean that Chicago's going to have home ice ahead of two Pacific teams who'll then have to play each other instead of facing Dallas with home ice advantage. As they say in the old country, 'goddamn I hate the Pacific division'.
