This is a reminder that the 2021 trade deadline will be in a little over a week - February 28th, 11:59:59.99 PM EST.

Since we overlooked this last year, I'm announcing now that any players whose rights are acquired after the trade deadline will be ineligible to play in the playoffs, just like in the NHL. This includes waiver claims and UFA signings in March and beyond - not prospect signings, if you choose to burn an ELC year this late in the season. I'll enter this rule into the rulebook shortly.

Keep in mind that means you CAN trade after the deadline, but they are ineligible for this years' playoffs. Again, same rule as the NHL.

Just to clarify here - we don't enter trades after the deadline, and I discourage people from posting them partly for that reason, though you're certainly welcome to negotiate away.

The main issue is that you can't trade in-game after the deadline. It's a huge pain in the ass to trade draft picks manually, and if you trade players through the file, you don't get various in-game things updated (news, player history, etc).

I suppose I could move the deadline in-game if it's in the schedule, but I'm not keen on that unless there's a compelling reason.

Does that include players put on waivers today? Say if I were to put a claim tomorrow on a player waived today, before the 24h window ends?

I'm guessing it's when the player was put on waivers that matters. Just wanted it to be clear.
