Well, the player on the splash screen of EHM has finally called it a career. Congratulations on a spectacular career, Joe! Can't wait to hire him as an assistant coach .

I don't think he'd make a great assistant coach, or head coach. I don't think he has the dominating and in control presence I think good coaches have.

I'm sure his team would respect him, but you can't lead a team on respect a lone, like it obviously didn't work for Gretzky.

The reason Joe was a great leader was because he would lead by example and that's not something you can do from behind the bench, this is the same reason why I don't think a guy like Sundin or Naslund will end up making a great coach either.

I completely disagree with this. In all sports, you see examples of coaches that lead by example. Certainly having the credibility of being a top 10/top 15 all-time player helps, but having a strong personality and a no-bullshit attitude is leading by example. The players feed off the coaches mannerisms and are the embodiment of their coach on the ice. The Miracle on Ice is a perfect example. Those players adopted Herb Brooks's personality without really realizing it. It was their driving force to beat a much more skilled opponent.

When the chips are down, everybody looks to the coach for guidance. In that respect, Sakic would make a great coach.

I'm not convinced, I guess we have to wait and see when Joe becomes a coach who is right.

I'm not saying he'll be a good coach. I'm saying it is possible for a coach to lead by example. You said it wasn't.

Well, I don't really care what you think, considering I said I was going to hire him if he became available in EHM. Thanks for your insight though, champ.

His coaching skills in real life are completely irrelevant as he's already stated he won't be becoming one.

He made a topic about a top 20 player retiring after a great career, not about whether he's capable of coaching or not. Then it got hijacked into a debate about whether he's capable of coaching or not.
