A Summary of Vik's Biggest Trades
I guess I'm feeling nostalgic. I've made 126 trades in my time here (yes, I keep track) so there are several noteworthy deals not in this list (I ignored any from this offseason), but I tried to stick to the ones that (basically) made my team what it is.

Colin Wilson 2015 ARI 1st (Jakub Zboril)

My very first deal as GM of the Habs. I actually only asked Nashville about Colin Wilson and this was the offer Lubos made me. Wasn't really looking for this big of a deal so soon but my top dman at the time was Luca Sbisa and Andrei Kostitsyn actually had a bigger cap hit then so didn't see how I could pass it up.

Shawn Matthias Colin Wilson
Jaden Schwartz Chris Kreider
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5201&p=44749#p44749
Shawn Matthias was not the player he is now when this deal came about. I basically burned a year developing him the following season which is part of the reason I have had no intention of parting with him since (as many of have found out). I was initially hesitant to make this deal though because I liked Wilson and wasn't too fond of Schwartz. I came around to it when I decided I could probably get someone better back for Schwartz than I could for Kreider.

2015 TOR 5th (Andrew Mangiapane)
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5581&p=47541#p47541
This trade looks ridiculously lopsided now but it could have easily been a nothing deal. This was pre-Vopatization Justin Abdelkader who was by no means a star but still rather useful. And Kenny Ryan was garbage. I mentioned burning a year developing Matthias, I also worked hard at developing Kenny Ryan that year and that's why I can't seem to let my lovely PP specialist go.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5583&p=47549#p47549
What a different time this deal comes from. Back in the day, it used to actually be difficult to get a good goalie on a decent contract. Hellberg was just such a goalie so that actually had value back then. And I mentioned Sbisa was my top dman when I got here. He oughtn't have been a top dman for anyone but he was a very nice piece at the time. The Hischier-for-Misyul attempted boost deal was something I'd been hounding Alex about previously that he finally relented to as part of this deal.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=6610&p=54489#p54489
I actually only just now found out I once held the pick that became PO Joseph. Who knew? Anywho, I wouldn't have made this deal if I had any idea Minnesota was going to take Mattson. I would've stayed put and taken Chychrun and Laine. But it doesn't seem to have worked out too poorly for me.

The previous Chicago GM had built up salaries of, I think, over 100M in the offseason. I remember making him several offers to help alleviate that burden before it got that excessive only to see him make some other deal that actually added to his cap space. After I did some calculations and posted about how ridiculous his salaries were becoming, he ditched. So Bern took over and had to cut salaries however he could. This deal was actually Burmistrov for the 1st but I was at the 50 contract limit so I suggested the Bristedt for a 5th bit. Bern always has contracts spots and Bristedt was making the minimum at the time so I figured he might actually get some use out of him. And he did. I've kind of been tracking Bristedt's career even since, just because I find it somewhat amusing. Also, I had a bunch of 1sts I could've moved in the deal and I chose the LA pick entirely so I could feel better about the previous deal. Now it's Tkachuk, Carlsson, and Burmistrov that I got for my picks! Doesn't that make you feel better?

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7175&p=57967#p57967
I tried a few times to get Lee from Calgary, but he kept asking for some form of this deal. That seemed too rich for my blood for the longest time until, eventually, I couldn't take how awful my D was any longer and pulled the trigger. Pretty sure this caused the swing in my team that led to a rather impressive showing in the second half of 2016-17. Unfortunately, I was trying to tank at the time after getting off to such a terrible start.

viewtopic.php?f=25&t=7526&p=60109#p60109
For some perspective on this deal, you new folks should know that Kostin and Gildon were both POT boosters. That is to say, I gave up a 1st round pick to move up 5 spots to take a ridiculously big swing (which I justified
with a Jack Nicholson GIF). My thinking was, I had lots of players who could be useful but needed stars. Kostin was the one player left in the draft that I thought could be a game changer so who cares if it's a bad deal? And I've got no regrets about it.
I also very much enjoyed re-reading my reasoning for the deal at the time.

2020 BUF 3rd (Roby Jarventie)
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=8615&p=66024#p66024
I tried hard to get a pick to use on Jarventie at the draft - didn't realize until now that it was a pick I gave up that actually was used on him. As for the deal, a GM-less Senators team got off to a surprisingly terrible start that season and had cap problems to go with it. When Marty put Spezza on the block, I jumped at the chance. Marty kept adding more and more to the deal and I kept saying OK until I finally told him I'd agree to his most recent offer but only if we did it right then. Clearly, we did. Also, feel I should mention that Devante Stephens was a CON booster who did just that (as you can see in the trade thread)

Funny thing about this deal, I'd asked Calgary about Ovechkin years earlier. They wanted a package back that included my two high first round picks. If you've read up to here, you'll know I dealt those two picks in a deal that saw me get Matthew Tkachuk and Gabriel Carlsson. Wish I could remember what else would've been involved.

A lot of Chicago on this list, isn't there. I had no room for Corey Perry and not knowing if I was going to be able to move him, I was extremely conservative in free agency last year. Fortunately, found a deal with Boston for him and got some breathing room. But I am a little curious about what I would've done had I room to play with.

For the new folks, this was a CON boost deal gone right (for me at least). I'd tried to get Glukhov in a booster deal before, this was the first time I had anything Dave found useful.
So that's a lot of how I went from this...
