You don't really have the cap room for that. The Jackets have past buyouts of Jonas Gustavsson (1,375,000) and Daymond Langkow (2,812,500) so you're currently sitting at 63,671,666.

That's the kinda thing that's good to know... But didn't I read somewhere that we don't have to pay for the former GM's mistakes? Maybe I'm wrong

Buyouts of players brought in by a former GM are less costly to you but I'm not aware of any forgiveness for past buyouts.

I believe the current rule is 40% for 1.5 million to 2.999999 million, and 20% at 3 million or more is the cap hit for buyouts done by a previous GM.

So CBJ cap hits need to be adjusted accordingly, right now they are either 50% or 75% depending on the contracts value.

All right then. Based on that, Gustavsson should be 1,100,000 and Langkow 750,000 which would put the Jackets at 61,334,166. Should probably have someone confirm that though.

No. We've never interpreted the rule that way, and I don't think it was intended to mean that.

No worries. Yeah, you're in a bit of a tight cap spot. This year might be tough, but next year will be better, esp since Langkow will come off the buyout books.
