Confirmed. Originally got the pick as part of an ultimately doomed effort to convince Buffalo to swap 1 for 4, decided it'd be best to delay it a year and Edmonton could use the futures. The conditions are basically, if NYR misses the playoffs, Edmonton gave up too much so gets something, whereas if they make the conference finals, I/Detroit gave up too much (especially compared to other similar deals), so I get something. Odds are neither will come to pass, probably.
