2024 Entry Draft

Post by SharksGM »

Auto list: CGY, PHI, WAS
Sent a list: STL

The 2024 draft class of 152 skaters and 11 goalies is complete. It is available as always in the draft spreadsheet. You can also find the full draft order (will be pasted into threads before the draft starts), and look up the eligible draftees here (this also includes eligible players who weren't picked in the last two drafts, as well as 10/20/30 pot/con fake players that are not eligible even if you wanted to draft them). Thus, we are ready to begin the draft.

The draft will start on Monday, August 5, 2024 at 6 PM ET. In the meantime, please review the draftees and let me know if you spot any issues so that I can fix them before the draft starts. Also review the entry draft rules.

Note that as with last year, the amended rulebook makes it viable to draft second-time eligible POT boosters.

Thank you to those who contributed ratings to the draft. I did adjust some of them but this year the majority of the players were not entered by me (I did the top 30ish, the goalies, some dozen-odd filler players and a few more mid-level players). You'll notice that the draft appears weak past the top 16 or so. Fret not! There are 14 POT single boosters and I assume a record 20 double boosters. Should a reasonable fraction of them boost, the draft will still be above average. And yes, there are slightly fewer skaters than usual, sorry. Don't expect much from 5th round picks.

In fairness, that's how this draft was described by the so-called 'experts'. Fairly heavy top 15-20 and some questions thereafter.

We've mentioned in the past the idea of upping double-boosters since single almost always hit (apologies to the unlucky teams - looking at you DET) and that makes for some interesting and more realistic opportunities.

It means little from me since I am not really in the position to draft anything of substance this year or next, but the idea of having 'weaker' drafts should be a net positive IMO. Plus looks like everyone got their FA boosts so YOU'RE WELCOME COMPLAINERS.

I don't know who has editing control but it looks like the Draftsheet has been changed.

I had to re-sort it temporarily to fix the current rating columns for prospects that had them randomly assigned (which is most of them past the top 15 or so, although I did manually adjust some LE/ST ratings). Of course, you should double-check the attributes in the file itself because those are authoritative.

Speaking of which, I found that Jake Fisher is an overager and duplicate from last year, so I guess he'll be renamed to something else.

Just another reminder on how draft picks should be formatted on trades:

B. Once a trade has been agreed upon by both parties, it must be posted in the Trades section of the forum and include the teams, players (with their consistency rating) and draft picks involved, as well as a short justification. Both general managers must confirm the trade under this post. Draft picks should be formatted like ANA 2nd 2024 so that they can be found with the forums search.

Jake Fisher drafted 135th OV by NYI has been renamed to David Klee (yes, son of Ken), since Fisher was drafted in EHEC in 2023.
