2011-2012 EHEC Awards

Post by SharksGM »

Bernier is off to ravage the plains of Europe so here comes the voting for 2011-2012 awards. I'm told he has the result for 2010-11 sitting around so presumably he'll post them before September.

Since I'm putting myself in charge we'll do things a little differently this year. Like the real voting, we'll use a ranked ballot. You can vote for up to 3 candidates. Your top choice will earn 3 votes, second 2, and third 1. Moreover, although I will provide some candidates/suggestions below, you do not have to vote for players on these lists. You can vote for whoever you want if you have a better idea who should win; these are merely suggestions.

Please also note that all of these awards are based on regular season stats only, other than (obviously) the Conn Smythe.

HERE ARE THE CANDIDATES FOR THE 2011-2012 SEASON:

Vezina Trophy (Annual award given to the goalie that best excels in his position)

1. Simeon Varlamov, Washington Capitals (40-16-3-7, 1.80 GAA and .906 sv% in 67 GP)
2. Ilya Bryzgalov, Phoenix Coyotes (38-20-2-6, 2.03 GAA and .899 sv% in 66 GP)
3. Evgeni Nabokov, San Jose Sharks (40-19-0-7, 2.12 GAA and .900 sv% in 66 GP)

Jack Adams Award (Annual award given to the EHEC GM/Coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success)

As with last year, vote for the GM/Coach combo because we do the actual coaching around here. Although there is a separate GM of the year award it doesn't make much sense to vote for a coach who did nothing.

Calder Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the EHEC)

1. Tyler Seguin, Tampa Bay Lightning (31-40-71, +15, 41 PIM, 7 T-G, 42 SB and 58.4 FO% in 71 GP)
2. Tyler Cuma, New Jersey Devils (4-28-32, +1, 28 PIM, 74 T-G, 47 SB in 66 GP)
3. Jack Campbell, Winnipeg Jets (34-16-1-2, 2.06 GAA and .892 sv % in 54 GP)

Hart Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team)

1. Milan Lucic, Boston Bruins (45-38-83, +24, 59 PIM, 69 T-G, 42 SB in 82 GP)
2. Rick Nash, Columbus Blue Jackets (now NYI) (37-38-75, +31, 31 PIM, 131 T-G, 40 SB in 82 GP)
3. Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes (40-43-83, +35, 10 PIM, 41 T-G, 34 SB, 72.5 FO% in 82 GP)

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability)

1. Phil Kessel, Boston Bruins (36-45-81, +21, 4 PIM, -75 T-G, 26 SB, 70.8 FO% in 82 GP)
2. Jason Pominville, Buffalo Sabres (22-31-53, +21, 6 PIM, -16 T-G, 20 SB in 82 GP)
3. Jonathon Blum, Nashville Predators (9-22-31, -16, 4 PIM, 23 T-G, 48 SB in 82 GP)

James Norris Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position)

1. Shea Weber, Nashville Predators (14-41-57, +13, 20 PIM, 11 T-G, 96 SB in 82 GP)
2. Zdeno Chara, Montreal Canadiens (13-39-52, +10, 173 PIM, 107 T-G, 65 SB in 82 GP)
3. Mike Green, Detroit Red Wings (13-43-56, -12, 42 PIM, 35 T-G, 52 SB in 73 GP)

Frank J. Selke Trophy (Annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game)

1. David Backes, Columbus Blue Jackets (now PIT) (26-29-55, +27, 30 PIM, 86 T-G, 17 SB, 57.7 FO% in 74 GP)
2. Rick Nash, Columbus Blue Jackets (now NYI) (37-38-75, +31, 31 PIM, 131 T-G, 40 SB in 82 GP)
3. Eric Staal, Carolina Hurricanes (40-43-83, +35, 10 PIM, 41 T-G, 34 SB, 72.5 FO% in 82 GP)

John Bucyk Trophy (Annual award, given out this year for the first time, to the player that had the most surprising impact on his team)

1. Michael Frolik, Florida Panthers (33-62-95, -21, 15 PIM, -53 T-G, 99 SB in 82 GP)
2. Colin Wilson, Nashville Predators (33-45-78, +17, 16 PIM, -54 T-G, 35 SB, 53.0 FO% in 82 GP)
3. Evan Oberg, Vancouver Canucks (8-28-36, +19, 60 PIM, -36 T-G, 33 SB in 81 GP)

Bob Probert Award (Annual award, given out this year for the first time, to the most fierced agitator in the league)

1. Chris Neil, Ottawa Senators (182 PIM, 33 T-G, 20 FW in 28 FI in 79 GP)
2. George Parros, Anaheim Ducks (130 PIM, 14 T-G, 16 FW in 20 FI in 66 GP)
3. David Elsner, Calgary Flames (125 PIM, 7 T-G, 15 FW in 21 FI in 59 GP)

New! The Conn Smythe is usually awarded by EHM. That's dumb, so vote for the winner instead.

Conn Smythe Trophy (Given to the top playoff performer). EHM awarded it to Jumbo Joe.

1. Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks (9-14-23, +7, 7 PIM, -1 T-G, 7 SB, 45.7 FO% in 21 GP)
2. Patrice Bergeron, Winnipeg Jets (10-17-27, +6, 6 PIM, -4 T-G, 12 SB, 54.3 FO% in 24 GP)
3. Jack Campbell, Winnipeg Jets (12-7-0, 2.04 GAA, .911 sv % in 19 GP)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Send your ballots by PM to me. I will accumulate the results and post the winners once all ballots are received. All votes are due by September 4th, 2012 at 11:59 PM Eastern. You have a gazillion years to make up your mind so don't forget to do it.
This time, you can't rank your own player first but you can rank them second or third if you so desire.

Tomorrow's the deadline. We're approaching 154 ballots but not quite there which means half of you haven't voted. I'm especially looking at you, Bern.

... seriously, what the fuck is your problem Bern? I gave this long ass deadline for voting so you could submit a ballot and you can't be bothered to do it. And now you've been sitting on last year's ballots for over a year. Just post the damn results already.

A small bird went a very long journey. When he reached the end he found a cold, dark place. The bird tired, froze to death.

A cow passed the bird frozen in the ice, and took a dump on the bird. The warm shit melted the ice, resurrecting the bird.

Alive but still buried, the bird started to chirp . A cat passed by and heard the cries, and dug the bird out of the shit. And then the cat ate the bird.

Moral of the story?

The person who takes a dump on you isn't always your enemy, and the person who gets you out of the shit isn't always your friend.
