lockout

Post by Femur »

i have not followed this closely (especially when i heard the Fehr brothers were being called in; i knew we'd have no season), but i did catch the scroll yesterday that they are dissolving the union so they can sue for anti-trust violations.

i am sorry, but without knowing any of the legal issues here, i KNOW that the NHL does not have any sort monopoly on pro hockey which is making the players play for less than they would in a free market. players can easily play in Europe for millions.

i am not being a management shill or anything; this is simply my plea for sanity (and i know it won't happen, but in my mind anything is possible). this problem is simple between dividing the money up, it is NOT an exploitation issue.

seriously, i get that. but my point is the lawyerly mentality we have in our society....now everybody is crying to someone else to solve their problems.

look, i negotiate something every day in my job. there is nobody to cry to; if i can't get a deal done, it doesn't get done. you move on. if we had that mentality everywhere in our society, things would get done. sadly, when they reorganized our society into a grievance society in the 60s and 70s, we didn't see an improvement in most areas.

It's possibly a step the union's taking towards decertification. Also, they might be going to the courts to get the lockout declared illegal by claiming the league's not making good faith negotiations.

There's blame enough to go around, but the only ones I've heard crying over the last few months have been the owners and their shills Bettman and Daly. Fehr's a hardass to be sure, but wouldn't you want a hardass negotiating for you?

Normally I would, but I think Fehr's been more of a problem than a solution in the negotiations. Both sides are equally guilty in my opinion. Frankly, since I live in a minor league city anyway, I could care less about the NHL. I don't care if it ever comes back. I won't lose any sleep over it.

Hockey, in general, hasn't held my interest in a while. I go to Monsters games to get out of the house and because it's free. I ref because it's a little bit of extra money and exercise. I'm not emotionally invested in either activity. I don't play anymore and haven't played in over 20 months.

It sucks to see the hard work that the NHL has done repairing its image after the previous lockout all go by the wayside now. But, both sides are getting exactly what they deserve by taking such a hard-line stance on every key issue.

what's hockey? lol In 04-05 Edmonton was luck to have the smarts to move the farm team from Toronto to Edmonton... before having absolutely no farm team of their own till Springfield.

This time we are lucky to have the Oil Kings from the WHL. Great hockey, quick passes and fast pace. Its the best kept secret next to our lacrosse team in the NLL. I've had friends tell me they won't spend a dime of their own $ now but will still go if they receive a ticket. I've stocked up on Oilers gear over the years and even I don't see myself buying any products any time soon.

Kinda wishing someone with the spirit of Wild Bill Hunter would step up and start up a new league.
