Those are the breaks. If you thought so lowly of this draft, then maybe you should've traded all your picks.

Had I not thought most other drafts would be about the same, I would have ;)

As I said, I was venting. No need to keep giving me your jabs.

We already had...two superdrafts? That's enough.

Some of the biggest stars in this file came all in one mega draft, it's unfortunate that you missed it, but unfortunately as well, I prefer the balanced drafts. In real life you don't see 40 guys make huge impacts on NHL teams, you see maybe 15 or so. This file isn't stacked so guys that are you know, 75-77 ish are actually good players, and guys that are say 60/80 or 72/76, whatever, are decent defensemen.

VancouverCanucksGM wrote:Also, why not have participation points in the league (articles, game results, sending in lines), then you can use them to buy players CON increases, or maybe have off season training camps, that you can send players to, and have them improve on a couple of categories etc? Not enough to make them all mega stars, but maybe enough to push certain guys over that little hump to make them better. Just a thought, more thinking out loud than anything.
We've done draft review and preview rewards in the past. Anything beyond that is unnecessary. It creates work that I don't need to do or want to do. The file is what it is. We've said that from the start. I didn't edit any existing players and let EHM generate the ceilings in 1.15b when we started the file four years ago.

The day I need to do stuff like to get activity is the day I stop running the league. We've got a good group here and a lot of guys who respect me and I, in turn, respect them. That's why we've lasted this long and why we should continue to last in the future.

Why do I need to incentivize sending in lines? Either you want to try to win or you don't. All that does is punish the guys who are active without getting something extra for it.

There are plenty of good players in the file, almost too many. The draft classes that you weren't around for in 2010 and 2011 were very good, especially 2010. There has to be a balance in the file.

Regarding your questions on CON, it's about the only way to stunt development and possibly simulate a prospect "busting". Every guy develops to where he's supposed to. CON can speed up and slow down that process, or take it to a grinding halt.

By Pat's count, the draft class has 123 players with 70+ CON, 56 of which have a CON above 80. Of those players, 39 have POT above 70. So 39 players have 70+ POT and 80+ CON. I don't see how that's not good enough.

Got a message from Parker. It'll be a little while. He's at work and left his scouting stuff at home. After that it's me and I'll try to contact Detroit. Should be done with the second round tonight. Great pace. Thanks to everybody for being alert and on point.

Sorry guys. I meant to send my scouting workbook to my work email before I came in this morning but I am not always at the top of my game at 4:30am when I have to get up. I will make my pick by 8:30pm EDT.

Definitely not a problem.

4:30. Shit, I wouldn't be able to function at 4:30 let alone remember shit for a sim hockey league.

The worst is that I'm far enough north that in summer here it's still broad daylight at 10pm. If I get more than 5 hours of sleep on any night it's a goddamn miracle.

Not a total shock given the guys actually taken -- you can see the needs of every team from 1-3 being addressed by MacK, Barkov, and Drouin. I'm sure Canes fans were hoping Nashville would take Nichushkin or Monahan and Jones would fall to us, but I'm happy with Lindholm. The Canes really need blueline help, but getting a gritty, two-way forward with high compete level and a very high ceiling? Yes, thank you.

That top 10 was interesting to say the least. Nashville should be pretty happy.

I loved the move by Gillis, Bo Horvat is gonna be solid.

Huh, I didn't even scout Matthew Murphy. He's listed in the file as a free agent rather than draft-eligible so my scouting workbook filtered him out.

I hesitated between Marc McNulty, Matthew Murphy and Ryan Graves for that #84 pick. Ended up picking the latter.
Never would've thought the two others would be available at 136 and 149 respectively.

Nick Hutchinson is a good player at this point though. Good scouting on this one, Parker.

I am pretty pleased with myself since I got a guy who will probably be a top 5 defenseman from this draft (McCoshen) at #51 and a possible 6/7D/AHL all-star in the 4th round, all with only a few hours of scouting. It's going to be a hell of a wait for them to develop, though.

Those 18-year-olds listed as UFAs in the game were in the draft list until pretty late in the game. Not sure why they were removed (plenty of guys get passed over once or twice in real life), so I'm going to say they are okay to draft. Not that there are any studs in there...

Thanks Julien. I was a little surprised he was still available that late, but I figure his lousy SK/EN ceilings and mediocre CON scared people off.

Ditto; I've already said that I believe if you time out once you get auto'd the rest of the draft (or can submit a list).

Pretty bad to be timing out in the 5th, 6th and 7th....

Agreed. C'mon guys...don't make me time you out after 15 minutes!

Thanks to those of you who've already sent preferences. Remember, we're going to try to get everything straight by Monday, so free agency can begin on time. Getting the draft done the next couple of days would go a long way toward doing that.

I went through and turned old draftees into FAs. The 93s and 94s I changed to FAs weren't in this year's draft class. Though there are a couple that could have (and should have last year) been drafted.

Whatever Pat decided is fine with me.
