Arbitrations have been determined in the Derek Roy, Tim Connolly, and Chris Phillips arbitrations.

Roy
Length: 4 years
GM proposal: 4M per; no comps listed
Agent proposal: 4.5M per; comps: Jokinen, Parise, Perry, Zajac

Dany said in his PM that he wants to watch the procedure, hence why no comps were listed.

Dany, here's the way that this should work...

Derek Roy, offer 4 years at 3.75M per
Comps: Jordan Eberle, Lauri Korpikoski, Andrew Cogliano

All of these players make less than Derek Roy and are pretty similar in the game, except for the age difference. Your job is to point out why Derek Roy should make less money than he currently does or at least as small of an increase as possible.

Derek Roy is similar to these players in most categories. Cogliano had 60 points, Roy had 62, Korpikoski had 54, and Eberle had 65 points. Their production was similar to Roy. Eberle made 4M last season, Cogliano make 3.35. Korpikoski made 2.115M. Roy performed similar to them at a higher salary and is a very similar player.

Here's what the agent said:
Derek Roy is a pretty consistent and reliable 1st line centerman. He basically has the same stats line in the last 3 seasons; 25 goals, 35 assists for 60 points. He played in every game since EHEC opened his doors 4 years ago. His offensive skills are well-rounded and he's not a liability in his own end either. He's decent enough to play the dot too. His weaknesses are his lack of leadership qualities and size. With line restrictions though, he's a good fit for an offensive-minded 1st line and his leadership was affected by playing only 4 playoff games over the last 8 years. We propose a small raise given the fact that Buffalo is willing to offer my client a long term deal.

Now, as for my personal thoughts, Roy has been a consistent performer in EHEC as his agent said. That's while having mostly inactive GMs since the end of the league's first year. Unlike his real life counterpart, he's not a major defensive liability in EHEC. He was only -24 in TA/GA ratio and only -12 in HG/HT ratio. He's a pretty solid player in EHEC and deserves a slight raise for his efforts.

I award Roy 4 years at 4.25M. Dany, you can accept/reject this award.

Connolly
Length: 3 years
GM proposal: 2.88M; no comps listed
Agent proposal: Test the market; comps: Umberger, Filppula

Here's what the agent said:
Interesting case here. My client started off the inaugural EHEC season as one of Buffalo's top player, notching 70 points. Since then, mostly because of the lack of management, he has seen his ice time go down. It got out of hand last season under former GM Pickell where he served as the team's 4th line C. Playing 8 minutes a night is not going to cut it for my client. That's a guy with a decent offensive game and some leadership, he does not suit up as a 4th line C. Rather than signing a long term deal with a team that has shown no faith in him whatsoever, my client would like to test the market and maybe end up helping another team. Remember, Tim was a 5th overall pick in 1999 and at age 32, he's not ready to accept that kind of role anymore. He's a proud man that loves to play the game still. He's made money in the past so that's not quite the issue here. Plain and simple, we want out of Buffalo. Umberger and Filppula found new homes, new roles last summer, so can we.

Tim Connolly will become a free agent.

Phillips
Length: 2 years
GM proposal: 2.75M per; no comps listed
Agent proposal: 3M per; comps: Robidas, Brewer

Chris Phillips has a very good LE, a good CON, and no weaknesses in his defensive game. He's a good asset for a Buffalo team that needs help on the blue line and is a disciplined player. His agent is willing to take a slight pay cut in exchange because Phillips wants to continue to be a leader for Buffalo and he likes the direction that the team is going in with more steady leadership.

I award Chris Phillips 2 years at 3M per.

Dany, you can accept/reject this award.
