Re: Anaheim contract offer for 2013
An award has been determined in the Trent Hunter arbitration.
Length: 4 years
GM proposal: 1.6M per; comps: Malhotra, Byers, Sutherby
Agent proposal: 3M per; comps: Armstrong, Langenbrunner, Cole
A very big range here for Hunter. Hunter's previous salary was 2M. As his agent says, he's a jack of all trades, but a master of none. He does have a very nice 80 HI attribute. He's an average skater with a nice LE and no real weaknesses in his game. His CON of 78 is above average. He's just a solid player. He's coming off of a real life 5 year/10M deal that ends this season and has lasted the duration of EHEC. He's a better player in the file than he is in real life. It's kind of difficult to find solid two-way forwards with good CON and 80+ HI for the bottom six. He can also serve as a good penalty killer.
He played well for three different teams this season, posting a +58 TA/GA ratio and a +50 HG/HT ratio. Hunter would have the third-highest LE on the Ducks roster and the Ducks prospect pool is lacking forward talent. Hunter's going to play a big role for the duration of this contract and does have trade value, even at a new salary. He's a complete player and deserves a raise in the file because he's better than his real life counterpart. The midpoint between the GM and the agent seems like the proper place to settle in this case.
I award Hunter 4 years at 2.3M.
Joe, you can accept/reject this award.
