NHL Draft 2014

June 26, 2014
Philadelphia,

In less than 48 hours we will know who stand with which team.

While the Vancouver Canucks won the lottery draft last month taking the first overall pick from the Islanders cluctching hands they team run by GM Chris Kuchmak did not go screaming into the night.

In fact It has been a busy week for the GM who has moved a couple of major parts of an Islanders team that had difficulty scoring and stopping pucks.

The parts are the blockbuster trades of Rick Nash and John Tavares.

Rick "the stick" Nash was moved to the Calgary Flames in return for a number of riches. Coming to the Island is Nikita FIlatov and David Krejci along with Lukas Sutter and defensive prospect Lukas Sutter and Calgary's 1st round pick.

John Tavares drafted 1st overall in 2009 by the Islanders was sent to the Bolts for centerpice dman Ryan Murray who was drafted by the bolts 2nd OA in 2012. Along with the recently acquired MPS, defenseman Chris Bigras, along with prospects Cassels and Bender.

The Islanders also sent RFA Alex Vasyunov to the Dallas Stars for Cal Clutterbuck in a trade that essentially brings in some more grit and salary.

With the 2nd overall pick the Islanders have many options. Regardless a draft pick is needed to help turn this franchise around. But one pick is only the beginning.
