EHEC All-Star Break Report

Post by Jets GM »

Central Division

Inside: Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis
Outside: Winnipeg, Nashville, Minnesota, Colorado

It has been a game of musical chairs between the top four teams. Winnipeg, once atop the division, has fallen upon hard times and slipped out of the playoff picture. However, only 5 points separate the division leading Blackhawks and 4th place Jets. Rumours of a rebuild in Edmonton and a Zetterberg’less Ducks squad could mean a wild card spot opens up. Until then, it will be a razor close finish.

Pacific Division

Inside: Los Angeles, Arizona, Calgary, San Jose (WC), Edmonton (WC)
Outside: Anaheim, Vancouver

After starting on a thunderous rampage, the Kings have come back down to earth….a tiny bit. The acquisition of Jonathan Tavares makes them a serious contender for the Stanley Cup. Quietly, the Arizona Coyotes have shortened the gap between themselves and LA. The division title will be a close finish between two very talented teams. Calgary and San Jose have been inconsistent, but look to be well on their way to a playoff birth. If Edmonton falls out of the playoff picture, look to the Central division for their replacement.

Metropolitan Division

Inside: Pittsburgh, New Jersey, New York R, Carolina (WC), Washington (WC)
Outside: Columbus, Philadelphia, New York I

Pittsburgh remains a threat to repeat as Cup winners, but New Jersey and the Rangers have put forth strong campaigns to win the division. Carolina and Washington have similar stories to the Flames and Sharks; unpredictable, but most likely headed to the playoffs. Columbus cannot seem to find the solution to piecing a very talented lineup together.

Northeast Division

Inside: Tampa Bay, Boston, Ottawa
Outside: Florida, Buffalo, Toronto, Detroit, Montreal

Leading the league in goals by 13, the Lightning have made a convincing argument about not needing to play defense. Still, Halak is 7-1 since being acquired from the Stars and has helped stabilize the backend. The Bruins continue to perform well in the regular season, but will it translate to post-season success? Ottawa was the league’s biggest surprises early on, but has stumbled lately. If the Sens can’t right the ship quickly, any of the teams in the division could take over the final playoff spot.
