Five Question Friday 4/16/2010

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

5. You're driving home from somewhere on a dark freeway in an area you're unfamiliar with at 1:30 am. Your gas gauge is practically on E and you're coming up on an exit with a gas station. A mile before the exit, you pass a sign that says Next Gas: 25 mi/40 km. Do you stop? Or do you risk it?

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

Ryan Miller. After his Olympic performance he deserves it. Also, I wouldn't be upset if Jose Theodore got one for everything that he's gone through with his family life and children the past couple years.

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

I am a trained severe weather storm spotter.

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

Golden Tee or Virtua Fighter.

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

Chicken alfredo

Going for it. I had this situation coming back from Seneca Allegany Casino out on I-86 at about 11:30 at night. I wanted desperately to get back to I-90 because gas was 40 cents a gallon cheaper. My gas light came on right as I got on the ramp to 90 and the first exit had a gas station. My fiance was going crazy. For those who don't know, I-86 is exceptionally dark, deer-filled, and I'd see a car every 5 miles. I'd say I probably went about 35 miles slightly above E. My tank is 16.5 gallons and I think I put 15.8 in the tank at the gas station.

I also figured that I-90 was a much bigger freeway and there was a good chance that a small gas station off I-86 would be closed and then I'd have spent the gas getting back to the freeway.

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

Ryan Smyth/Ian Laperriere. Both former Avs, they give it all for any team that they're playing for, and are both veterans nearing the end of their careers who have never won it before.

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

I feel like I'm pretty good with animals.

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

...Chicken alfredo.

Yeah. The gas light usually lies to me. The trick is to consume the optimal amount of gas (obviously) by going the optimal speed (I think it's like 60-80km/h) without any sudden braking or crazy accelerating. In a dark, unfamiliar, deer-filled freeway, this isn't too hard to do. And I'd agree, trying to find something you've never found before while pushing an empty tank, even in broad daylight, is pretty risky.

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

Jaroslav Halak. Came out of nowhere, earned his spot, earned the starting role, has top 5 in the league goalie ratings and still isn't considered a first class goaltender by most of the people.

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

I remember everything.

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

FZeroX

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

My mom is a great cook so I never cooked anything. When times come I'll get to it!

Definitely risk it. I usually stay on the red till I find a Shell for Air Miles :P

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

None of my favourite teams or players are even in the playoffs, so I'll have to say anyone on Detroit because it would mean the Coyotes don't make it out of the first round.

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

Uh... I've got a quality slide tackle that I haven't been able to use in years because I can't find a league to play in that allows them.

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

Any number of terrible shooting games. I don't know what the appeal was.

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

Uh... I can make a mean guacamole? Figures the best thing I'd think of something that doesn't involve any actual cooking.

I might as well risk it because I'm already driving on a highway without a license that allows me to.

1. Which player would you be the happiest for if he won the 2009-2010 Stanley Cup and why?

Shane Doan. The guy has played his entire career for the same crappy franchise, is a great all-around player with no real weaknesses in his game, as well as a great dressing room presence and team leader. He's also my favorite active NHler. I don't want to see the Coyotes win in real life though; I want that franchise to crash, burn, and move somewhere where people actually give a shit about hockey.

2. What hidden talent or ability do you possess that very few people actually know about?

My girlfriend knows.

3. Favorite arcade game of all-time?

I'd probably have to say Dragon's Lair. There's never been another game out there that I was more excited to even just WATCH someone play it.

4. If you cook, what meal do you feel that you specialize in cooking?

I don't cook, but I can follow the directions on a box of Kraft Dinner like nobody's business. Though I haven't really eaten KD since university.

Most vehicles will drive at least 50 clicks on the highway after the fuel light comes on, so if that light isn't yet on it'd be a safe bet to risk it. That's assuming I knew there was actually an open gas station within 50km.

1. Happiest player if he won the cup:

Roberto Luongo. He is probably the guy that is most under the microscope out of any team, and a cup ring would solidify the nay-sayers.

I have to add Taylor Pyatt to my list of guys I'd be happy for. I can't imagine losing the love of your life so tragically, just before you were about to be married and then find a way to go on living your life. Moving to a different city, trying to start over with your life. The last year has been brutal for him. He deserves some happiness.
