Why did Calgary trade the 1st I acquired in this deal?

Boston has 4 underagers.
Edmonton's at 51 contracts.
Philadelphia's at 51 contracts.
After their trade, Calgary's over the cap (at 70,495,000; need to be 70,296,507).
After their signings, Nashville (at 70,506,469; need to be 70,093,396) and Arizona (at 70,422,501; need to be 70,025,900) are over the cap.

Yann Sauve's contract still hasn't been entered.

Jimmy Vesey has been demoted to the AHL. Arizona is now cap compliant.

Am I not getting any LTIR for Morrow and Higgins? I shouldn't be over the cap...

You only get LTIR if adding their salaries to your current cap hit would put you over. You weren't close enough to the cap when they got injured for them to give you LTIR space.

I don't understand how LTIR works then..
When you add both guys to my payroll it puts me over NOW.
Back when the 1st one happened, I didn't need a callup but the 2nd one left me no choice but to call guys up.

As for the pick... That's a major bummer!
How did you miss your team not getting the 1st rounder from that Spooner deal?!
I still have my own 1st rounder, do I?

I'm not really a fan of the way we do this but this is how Dan says we're doing it this year. In the NHL, teams don't need to put a player on LTIR and won't do so unless it's necessary. If they do put someone on LTIR, they'll call players up (and sometimes send some down) to get as close to the cap as possible before actually putting the player on LTIR to maximize the space allowed. Since we don't exactly have a bunch of capologists in this league and people find our financials overly complicated as it is (I get lots of PMs around the deadline but only so many of them are people actually wanting to deal with me), I'd say we should just let teams go over by the salary of the injured players. But, in the meantime, I calculates it as Dan tells me to.

I saw it was a 1st, I didn't really pay attention to which 1st it was. I doubt I would've noticed at all except Bub had to trade the pick from me to you to make the trade work (I'd've thought the pick being on my team would've been a sign that something was amiss).

And you've got your 1st as well as Chicago's for 2017.

So the pick was only the wrong one?

As for the cap issues, I still don't really get it.
I always thought that while my guys were injured (1.8 + 1.2 = 3M) I could go up to 73M but I'd still be counted for 70M.

OTT 1st should go back to me and you and Boston can decide which 1st you want included in your deal instead.

It's...
Your salary in the first game after the injury + salary of injured player = max allowable

CGY salaries + your injured players in the first game after their injuries was less than 70M so you don't get any additional room for them.

You basically only get as much LTIR as you need to replace your injured player.

If you're 1M under the cap and a 3M player gets injured and you don't call up a replacement by the next game, you get 2M LTIR to spend up to 72M.
If you're 3M under the cap and a 2M player gets injured and you don't change your roster, you get no LTIR at all.

Also I assume Bub isn't around so I'm going to do the sim.

Re draft pick, ugh.

We've missed picks in trades before, so I assumed that's what happened here. That's what everyone gets when Bub does a late night sim. :)
