With Nemeth due a hefty raise, I decided to move old man Phaneuf if I could get a decent return. Merrill and Reinhart bring much needed depth to my blueline and Frolik could have a monster season between my goalscoring wingers.

I accept. I'm aware of Phaneuf's age, but I felt a top defenceman would make a big impact on our roster. Frolik was never really in the plans, we have enough offence without him. As for Merrill, we didn't need three offensive Ds under 80 DF. Between this and the Mason deal, I feel the Avs can be contenders next year.
