Pittsburgh / Detroit - round 2

Post by DetroitGM »

To Detroit:
J. McCann (86)
D. Elsner (79)
A. Tuomisto (63)
CHI 2021 2nd

To Pittsburgh
G. Latendresse (64)
P. Jenys (56)

Confirmed, Tuomisto and the 2nd are the main things of interest for me, but McCann and Elsner are young enough to remain in my rebuilding team, even with their cap hits.

Thanks Pens!

Pittsburgh agrees.

I needed McCann's cap space to re-sign Cotton, and while I was hopeful I could squeeze some sort of value out of him because he's a decent player, his cap hit was proving to be too problematic. Elsner was in a similar boat... I probably wouldn't have ended up using him much, and would prefer to save that $2.8M.

We managed to assemble a fairly deep prospect group and a decent number of picks over the 2020-2022 drafts, so trading out of a position of strength to gain some cap flexibility here, which will be helpful in pursuing a few other trade options out there and allow us to keep Cotton, who I really didn't want to see go.

Plus, Latendresse is a nice player. Jenys is probably a minor leaguer... but he can play centre, sorta shoot, and sorta hit, in case we end up desperately needing a cheap 4C or depth.
