2021 Free Agency

Post by SharksGM »

The file has now been updated post-draft to two days before the September 20 season roll-over, and provisional rule changes have been announced, so it's time to start free agency.

Please consult the rulebook entry on contracts and make your offers when you are ready. I am hoping to begin unrestricted free agency no later than Wednesday, September 15. If you foresee having difficulties getting your contract offers before then, please let me know ASAP. Some reminders, rules and regulations to keep in mind:

- If you're making a qualifying offer, just say so and I will add the player to the RFA list.
- Please review all of your contract offers carefully before posting them. If you ask to amend an extension that I have already entered, I might do it but will not be thrilled about it.
- Please do not offer ELCs to 2021 draftees yet. You're not allowed to do so for POT boosters, and all others can wait until after the rollover to be entered.
- Please do offer any 2020 POT boosters their ELCs - you don't want to miss out on likely their only chance to boost.
- The dates on RFA offers are normally (in-game) September 1 (reduction in the minimum offer amount) and September 15 (accepting QOs); these will be amended to (provisionally) September 22 and October 1, real time (as we may not have the in-game calendar synced by then).
- Entry-level contract sliding for underage players will be input in the near future; no action is required from you. None of the eligible players are pending free agents anyway.

Thanks for updating with draft and trades, it's pretty nuts to look at my 28 junior prospects.

Ya, I think it's 22 at the moment. Waiting on Boston, Calgary, Columbus, Florida, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vancouver, and Washington. Although of course it is entirely possible that one or more of them are not planning to re-sign anyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We should probably figure out which teams don't have an active GM and will need someone else to submit their offers. I can handle my old stand-by Florida if needed.

We are absolutely not going to be ready to start UFA on the weekend.

On the other hand, if we start Wednesday/Thursday, then the first wave of offers will close on Friday/Saturday (48h later). Seems fine to me.

If you have not already done so, please try to get your contract re-signings in ASAP. It would also be very helpful if you could format them like so:

Exact Name Ny amount

... where Exact Name is the Exact Name on the site/in players.ehm, including extra spaces (if any) and accents, N is the number of years, and amount can be formatted as a whole number, 600k or 600K, or 0.8m, 0.8M, 3M.

If you are incredibly pressed for time and don't care to look up the amount a player is due, you can omit the amount and just specify the years.

For ELCs and qualifying offers, only the name is needed.

It would be best to continue using exact names with accents going forward, as I've found that the forums search is sensitive to accents.

If you want to be unhelpful, make sure to omit first names, and then tell me that you want to re-sign Smith, Karlsson and Brown (the next person to do this will get a cap penalty for the upcoming season).

I can't edit my post, should I just repost with the above mentioned formula?

Yes, just quote your previous post with amendments. I will post a list of all re-signings when they're entered.

I was more asking for anyone considering last minute trade and sign deals.

Be nice to have a firm cut off so we know when we have to have the deal posted.

You should post them ASAP because trades need to be reviewed. There's no reason to wait.

And speaking of ASAP:

CBJ, MIN and WAS have not posted re-signings yet. Tick tock, etc.
