Homepage, Schedule & Results, League Save File

High scoring night tonight.

Things kicked off in Columbus, where the home side slowly worked their way to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-1 victory. Minnesota was 0 for 6 on the powerplay, including 26 seconds of 5v3 just three minutes into the game after Matteau took a penalty while Mantha was in the box. I note the players because curiously in the second period things were almost reversed - Matteau was in the box for two minutes, then 6 seconds after he left, Mantha replaced him. Jake Patterson had 22 saves for the win, while Mantha picked up two goals to go along with his three minors.

Colorado pulled off a bit of a surprise at home to Vancouver. Not a comment on the quality of the teams to be clear, but Vancouver was up 3-1 halfway through the game and outshot the Avalanche 40 to 18. However, going 0 for 5 (13 shots) on the powerplay will often cause problems and Colorado stormed back to win 4-3 in what I assume in Nedeljkovic's last game in Denver.

The lowest scoring game of the night saw Tampa Bay pick up a 3-1 win. It was definitely a penalty killing victory for the Lightning, as they only allowed 1 goal on the Kings' 6 attempts, meanwhile they managed to score a short-handed goal as well. This also means that Tampa had more shots on the penalty kill than the powerplay (to be fair, they only had one powerplay).

And then the red light started going off. Ottawa trounced the Islanders, going up 2-0 just under five minutes into the game and 4-0 not even a minute into the second period. They cooled off a bit at that point but still won 6-1. Lawson Crouse had 2 goals and an assist while Dylan Strome did the reverse and Halak made 23 saves. Kari Lehtonen, on the other hand, did not... and yet allowing 4 goals on 12 shots was still not the worst tonight.

The only overtime game of the night included some retribution as the Rangers scored just under two minutes into David Cotton's 5min for attempt to injury. Neither goalie covered themselves in glory as Spencer Knight allowed 5 goals on 27 shots while Josh Harding allowed 4 on 25. Lucic was the only player in the game to record 3 points, which is somewhat coincidental as he is now out for 3 weeks, meaning that Cotton is suspended for 3 games.

Finally, San Jose bids good riddance to Carter Hart, who I can only assume was booed off the ice before immediately being shipped out to Colorado after the game. Of course, Dan might be wondering why Hart was on the ice at all, since he was the backup this evening. Unfortunately for him, the proverbial goaltending battle was really more of a goaltending slaughter - Chet Pickard was pulled after allowing 5 goals on 19 shots, roughly 35 minutes in. Carter Hart steps in and faces 4 shots. Yes, just 4 shots. He even managed to stop one of them! Meanwhile, at the other end of the ice, Malcolm Subban made 42 saves, including 17 on the penalty kill.

Did Alex Edler bowl over his own goalie every time he stepped on the ice? What the fuck, man.

I bet you lost the game to STL on purpose so that you could cost me Lucic for 3 weeks. What's that? That's crazy talk....???!??!?!?!? SAYS YOU

Well, San Jose is a well-documented goalie graveyard. Carter will flourish in Denver without the weight of expectations. Like, any expectations at all.
