BUF RECEIVES:
2025/2026 PHI 1st (pending condition) - from DET
2026 NYR 1st (Top 5 protected; slides to 2027) - from NYR
Ryan Francis [72] - from DET
Simon Despres [60] - from NYR
DET RECEIVES:
Sam Reinhart [82] - from BUF
2026 LAK 2nd - from NYR
50% retention on Devante Stephens [64] - from BUF
NYR RECEIVES:
Devante Stephens [64] - from BUF through DET @ 50% retention
2025 DET 1st
Hey the NHL did a cool 3-way, we upped it to cooler for all the teams. I will let BUF and DET comment as to their positions, but as for NYR - I lose my 2026 (or '27 depending) but bring back a 1st for this year, so its mostly musical chairs there, but staggers the years of the picks which Buffalo wanted. For that little dance, I then also move out LAK's 2nd next year (to DET) and Despres (to BUF) in exchange for a legit 3/4 D in Stephens, who will be 100K cheaper than Despres. For me, this lands a much needed player for basically a 2nd, a body, and 1st swaps.
Pleasure boys, fun one!

Re: BUF // DET // NYR
Buffalo accepts.
Too much value to pass up. I love Reinhart. He's a proven 100 point player (a long time ago) and is exactly what I want for Celebrini's line. Obviously I had him in my future plans, even with an overpriced contract. It is effectively Mastrosimone for a 1st, can't pass that.
Stephens has been an excellent fit beside Makar. Also disappointed to lose him. Really wanted to try to resign. Again, just too much value to pass on. Effectively Theodore for a 1st, 4th + 5th.
Francis is a tweener who will get an opportunity here. Despres is just a cap dump.
Ideally I can flip some of these future assets, whatever they become, to get another proven Reinhart type player. And both Stephens and Reinhart are due contracts this offseason. Maybe I can circle back in FA.
It should be pointed out that DET is retaining 50% of Stephens salary. Not BUF.
Thanks Kevin, thanks Nick. Good luck with your playoff pushes.

I've known all season that my biggest hole was either 1C or 2C (depending on how one views Danault) and have been trying hard to get one as a result. Reinhart was pretty high on my list, for a variety of reasons, but I was having trouble convincing Buffalo to go for it. The IRL trade reminded me of three-team deals and I knew that Nick needed another top-4 defenceman, so I sent them both my vague idea. And what can I say, I love making Dan's life complicated

For me, I effectively give up a pair of 1sts (the uncertain Philadelphia one, which seems likely to push to 2026, and my own this season), in order to get the player I wanted and a 2nd. It's kinda like Reinhart for a 1st and ~30 spots, which I don't mind.
Nick was worried about his cap situation and I'm not (in part because Matthias' LTIR), so I retained on Stephens to push things over the line.
Theoretically this can be entered in game as:
- Buf-Det: Reinhart for Francis and Phi 1st, 2025
- Det-Nyr: Det 1st, 2025 for LA 2nd, 2026
- Nyr-Buf: Despres and Nyr 1st, 2026 for Stephens

Re: BUF // DET // NYR
I entered it in this order, but Stephens also could have been put in both of the first two trades and then DET retaining some of his salary is less mystical.DetroitGM wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:04 pm Theoretically this can be entered in game as:With Detroit's 50% retention of Stephens' salary entered in whatever mystical way Dan does that.
- Buf-Det: Reinhart for Francis and Phi 1st, 2025
- Det-Nyr: Det 1st, 2025 for LA 2nd, 2026
- Nyr-Buf: Despres and Nyr 1st, 2026 for Stephens

Even if he was included in the others, it would still have been mystical, because I don't have a clue how you do it
