Colorado accepts. We have several AHL forward prospects who may not be good enough on offence for the top six, and not good enough on defence for the bottom six. I think Niemelainen is more likely to play a role on my team and is pretty much NHL-ready.

Confirmed, too many good young defensemen.
Niemelainen would at best be a #6 dman here, so he wasn't going to be resigned to play in the AHL. Heponiemi is an equivalent forward that won't result in a cap penalty playing in the AHL next season.
