To the Pittsburgh Penguins:
Matthew Boldy (75)
To the San Jose Sharks:
Mika Zibanejad (74), 0.95M total salary retained
I want Mika's 90SH and 84HI, plus his better track record of actually scoring. Boldy will be a nearly identical player when his SH fully re-develops, but my window to win is now.
retention math: PIT has 82-49=33 games remaining, 0.95*82/33 = 2.35M penalty for the rest of this season. Retention of 0.95/(3+33/82)=0.28 rounded up to 300k savings for the remaining 3.4 years of his contract, bringing his salary down to 4.35M.

Re: PIT - SJ
PIT agrees.
Not completely writing off this season but with us underachieving, we take a hit short-term to save us some cap in the next few years going forward. As Dan mentions, Boldy will eventually develop into an almost identical player & will be cheaper to sign long-term this off-season.
