2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Post by SharksGM »

For reasons beyond human comprehension, EHM has decided that we must bear an entire week of boring 10+/-1 goal WC games, and then the playoffs will start on the 29th. Lucky for anyone with long-term injuries, I suppose. Anyway, I guess that means I don't have to update the file immediately.

Image

Those are the final standings, which yields:

#1 DET vs #8 CHI
#2 SJ vs #7 DAL
#3 COL vs #6 MIN
#4 NAS vs #5 LA

#1 OTT vs #8 NJ
#2 TB vs #7 NYI
#3 NYR vs #6 PIT
#4 TOR vs #5 MTL

The only thing our standings system changes is that in-game NYI finished ahead of PIT, so I suppose we've been robbed of a battle of NY. Oh well.

WPG, EDM, FLA, WAS, ARI, PHI, CGY, CBS, BUF, CAR, ANA, STL, VAN, BOS are in the lottery in that order. There's a 13 point gap between #9 BUF and #10 CAR.

Farm standings:

Well, wake up, it's almost time.

USA beat FIN 6-4 and SUI sorta upset CZE 6-3. CAN-SVK and RUS-SWE is tomorrow. EHM also released its idea of awards nominees:

3. Jukka Koivu, Detroit Red Wings
Annual award given to the NHL coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success (the top 3 teams)

Calder Memorial Trophy
1. Connor Bedard, Calgary Flames
2. Matvei Michkov, Vancouver Canucks
3. Ryan Leonard, Minnesota Wild
Annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League (the top 3 rookie forwards in points)

Hart Memorial Trophy
1. Alexander Nylander, Colorado Avalanche
2. Michael Frolík, Colorado Avalanche
3. Mitchell Marner, Colorado Avalanche
Annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team (the top 3 forwards in points, and lol at the diversity of choices)

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy
1. Tyler Seguin, Nashville Predators
2. Alexander Nylander, Colorado Avalanche
3. Michael Frolík, Colorado Avalanche
Annual award given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability (the top 3 forwards in... uh... points - PIM maybe?)

James Norris Memorial Trophy
1. John Moore, New York Islanders
2. Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Ottawa Senators
3. Petter Granberg, Los Angeles Kings
Annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position (the top 3 defensemen in points)

Frank J. Selke Trophy
1. James van Riemsdyk, Detroit Red Wings
2. Guillaume Latendresse, Boston Bruins
3. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Anaheim Ducks

For the record I converted 3 of NYI's OTLs to regular Ls so that they finished behind PIT in the in-game standings. I'll change them back one it's no longer needed to get the right seeding.

The file has been updated. Playoffs begin tomorrow, roughly. Also, SWE beat RUS so we'll have USA-SWE and CAN-SUI in the worlds, if anyone cares about that.

I meant to remove all of the post-deadline acquisitions from team rosters before starting the playoffs but forgot. I will enter that in the file later today. In the meantime, the only team who used any, afaict, is Dallas, so stop putting Winkler and/or Eriksson Ek in your lineup.

File update tonight. Sorry, round 2 was actually supposed to start Wednesday night but I didn't give enough warning for that (and I can't sim the games, obv).

Kevin pointed out that with the delayed start of the playoffs for that bizarre WC break, we are at risk of ending the playoffs past the June 17 draft date, which would be a mess. So I did a bit of surgery and move the already simmed ECQF Game 7 day back one day in the schedule, and moved the round 2 games back two days, then adjusted the date in league.ehm. I simmed the day in between as usual so the players will feel an odd sense of time dilation, I suppose, but the rest of us will be unaffected.

I will ask tomorrow's simmer if they can run both the west and east games in one shot to help get us caught up, so be prepared for game 1 on Thursday night if you're in the east too.

Like with last series, I simmed ahead a day (after DET-MIN ended) and moved the in-game calendar back one day. So DET gets a day of rest, but in-game it looks they'll play back-to-back. I did experiment with make the ECF start first but if I do that the game schedules (potential) game 5s on the wrong days and messes everything up, so that's not an option. Which means...

DET-SJ starts... well, later today by EST, i.e. May 27th real calendar.
OTT-TB starts May 28th.

If either series goes to game 7 (the east might push to June 7), we'll probably have to do this same trick at the end of round 3 and also between every game in the finals, so as to finish before the draft. Oh well. Lesson learned for next season, I guess.

By the way, Marty, this happened in an alternate universe:

Did some file surgery, namely advanced a day, saved, moved all of the ECF games back one day, changed the date to June 6 in-game, and made the SCF start the next (June 7). So effectively it's a one-day break for OTT as usual. As it is, game 6 would be on the 17th with the draft on the 18th, so another couple of days of schedule manipulation may be necessary. I might just do it after game 1 just in case. But anyway, the important point is the first two actual sims will happen on Wednesday night (the 11th) and Friday the 13th (spoooooky).

If that can help (and if it's doable obviously), It's ok for me to get 1 sim every night.

It's less about the IRL simming time and more about the in game process, where we're squishing the schedule so it looks like we're having to play back-to-backs, but the players still get the day off in between.

Effectively, we're fucking with time. But that's okay, "time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so"

I did another day subtraction and updated the file, for the 2-3 people who care.

Also reminding myself and other simmers that the game won't bother to schedule game 5 until game 4 is played, and will incorrectly put OTT at home so that'll need to be fixed.

File updated. No further compression is needed since the game can apparently handle game 7 on the 16th, if necessary. See you in about 24 hours.
