Today we have our first slate of playoff games courtesy of the Western Conference.

Detroit vs Chicago: John Tavares scores the first goal for Chicago less than a minute into the game, but Detroit would equalize not long after. Chicago regains the lead with a two goal second, and while Detroit pulls one back a few minutes into the third they would fail to net an equalizer. 1-0 Chicago.

San Jose vs Dallas: The Stars would take a 2-0 first period lead thanks to Broberg and Armia, with the Sharks pulling one back in the second. The third period would see a flurry of goals, with San Jose netting two and Dallas following up to tie the game at 3. With 2:16 remaining, noted offensive dynamo Mattias Samuelsson pots a goal, sealing it for the Sharks. 1-0 San Jose.

Colorado vs Minnesota: This game saw eleven goals despite only three powerplays, providing a clinic on how not to goaltend. After one it was 1-1, after two 2-3, and after three periods the game was even at 5-5, necessitating our first OT of the playoffs! Alas, it was a quick one as Mitchell Mattson fired home the winner just 1:27 into the extra period. 1-0 Minnesota.

Nashville vs LA: There was a flurry of goals in the first, with a net result of a 3-2 LA lead. They would stretch the lead a goal further in the second, before Nashville pulled one back a few minutes into the third. Matthew Tkachuk however would add one more goal for LA at the 10 minute mark to seal the win for the Kings. Unfortunately for everyone, just 35 seconds later Stephen Johns’ brain goes on vacation and despite the favourable scoreline he takes out Steven Shipley, earning the rest of himself a three game vacation as well. 1-0 LA.
