Down the Stretch They Come!

Post by Commish Bub(NYR) »

Because no one asked for it, here's some lightweight statistical "analysis" of the remainder of the EHEC regular season. List includes games left (GL); remaining opponents combined win percentage (OWP); to-date record versus remaining opponents (RvO); potential points in remaining games, based purely on the RvO column (PP); and total points each team will end up with, all things being equal (TOT). Obviously, this takes nothing else into account, such as a team's recent record, or injuries, or anything else. But it's a fun little exercise anyway, especially with the fractions thrown in. Enjoy, and sorry for any mistakes (bound to be one or two.)

WEST
Let's start out West. Not much change here. San Jose holds on to nab the President's Trophy, and the Predators surge into 7th. Nice round 1 matchup: LA vs PHO.

SJS -- 10 GL; OWP .567; RvO 13-6-0 -- PP 13.68 -- TOT 120.68
CBS -- 10 GL; OWP .503; RvO 16-6-1 -- PP 14.35 -- TOT 113.35
CGY -- 09 GL; OWP .453; RvO 15-6-0 -- PP 12.86 -- TOT 108.86
LAK -- 10 GL: OWP .591; RvO 14-4-0 -- PP 15.56 -- TOT 115.56
PHO -- 09 GL: OWP .540; RvO 18-6-1 -- PP 13.32 -- TOT 111.32
CHI -- 09 GL; OWP .480; RvO 13-7-4 -- PP 11.25 -- TOT 96.25
STL -- 09 GL; OWP .571; RvO 16-13-2 -- PP 9.87 -- TOT 88.87
NAS -- 10 GL; OWP .516; RvO 17-6-3 -- PP 14.23 -- TOT 92.93

EDM -- 10 GL: OWP .545; RvO 5-7-5 -- PP 8.82 -- TOT 83.82
VAN -- 10 GL: OWP .514; RvO 12-12-0 -- PP 10.0 -- TOT 82.00
ANA -- 08 GL; OWP .594; RvO 8-12-1 -- PP 6.48 -- TOT 78.48

EAST
A little more interesting in the East. The Pens claim the top spot, and the Jets squeak past the Caps by .44 points. :P Carolina nearly moves into fourth, showing just how close the SE division is going to be over the next few weeks. And Buffalo holds on to eighth by .23 points. Every game will be critical. Exciting round 1 matchup: MTL vs NYR, two teams that love each other dearly. (Although MTL vs BOS would be good too.)

WSH -- 09 GL; OWP .546; RvO 15-10-5 -- PP 10.5 -- TOT 113.50
PIT -- 11 GL: OWP .511; RvO 21-6-3 -- PP 16.5 -- TOT 115.50
MTL -- 09 GL; OWP .525; RvO 21-11-1 -- PP 11.7 -- TOT 100.70
WPG -- 10 GL; OWP .543; RvO 17-11-3 -- PP 11.94 -- TOT 113.94
CAR -- 09 GL; OWP .490; RvO 17-3-1 -- PP 15.00 -- TOT 112.00
NYR -- 10 GL; OWP .554; RvO 15-9-4 -- PP 12.14 -- TOT 98.14
BOS -- 10 GL; OWP .573; RvO 14-10-3 -- PP 11.48 -- TOT 97.48
BUF -- 09 GL: OWP .538; RvO 10-10-6 -- PP 9.00 -- TOT 89.00

PHI -- 10 GL: OWP .552; RvO 15-13-2 -- PP 10.67 -- TOT 88.67
TBL -- 10 GL; OWP .558; RvO 12-13-2 -- PP 9.63 -- TOT 84.63

This reminds me that I need to update the regulation + OT wins. Thanks Bub.

Good stuff there. I'm going to be the 3 seed. I'll be lucky to get 10 of my last 20 points. My lineup blows.

You should update that with the loss I'm going to register against LA tonight, I think the best I managed was a 4-2 loss with an EN goal .. in 15 or so test sims.

I don't think I'm going to have a fuuuuuuuu against something I'm expecting. I mean it's one thing to get teased with a few wins in a string of terrible losses and get your hopes up for an improbable happy ending, but it's another to lose every.single.goddamn.time.

Also I think this illustrates that as bad as STL has become with brand new 60 con starter Antero "Antlero" Niitymaki, they're going to have a tough time being overtaken by the two chasers in the northwest. Sorry guys.
