Update from the Flames draft table

Post by Calgary.Flames »

The Flames were a very active team prior to this year's draft in deals that saw John Negrin, Luca Caputi and Brad Richards leave Calgary. Reuniting with the city is Alex Tanguay who was acquired from Dallas. Also the team added offensive dynamo David Krejci to his roster.
On paper, the roster is basically set. Although, it's been well documented that GM, Julien Rozon, is still looking out there trying to find Shawn Horcoff and Dion Phaneuf new homes.

Now, with Malcolm Subban gone and with picks 40 and 59 in this round, even though there's still lots of interesting names out there, the Flames might be looking to deal those picks. Management believes the team is still fairly young and is not likely to suffer from a very poor draft year(if the picks were to get traded). Only 3 guys in the 30's and plenty of guys in the prime of their careers fill this Flames lineup.

As of now, the team's biggest need is an elite first line centerman. Then comes the need for goaltending. Kipper is getting older and goalies take a bit longer to develop so it would be something we'd look at. Although the defense looks nice, you never have too many of those guys. Last year's injury to Dion Phaneuf was good proof of that; he's played in 12 games only but the team still managed to win their division with a pretty neat 109 points.

Aside from stating that he was a little frustrated that Subban was picked so early, GM Rozon didn't elaborate on his stategies neither did he mention any names, that is of course, if he was to keep those picks.
