Florida on retreat, though we'll see how that goes.
Probably not worth noting, because I'm sure I'll find time to check in and whatever - and how viciously active am I around here anyway - but I'm taking a ~two week break from the everyday and hoping to use my time to get some projects finished, so I certainly endeavour to spend less time on the internet and the like. Just a heads up, if I'm ignoring PMs with more verve than usual.

couple days. i'm out of my habitat, doesn't mean i'm out of wifi. should've gone to the woods.

i hear you; it literally becomes harder everyday to unplug.
it was just a couple of years ago i read an article on a plane about the exponential nature of email/texts/instant messages; basically it said you can't possibly keep up with all the electronic communication effectively. the only suggestion was to try to talk to people in leiu of email as much as possible and it took it to heart. guess this will be my new year's resolution. i was irrationally nervous the other day when i left my phone at home for 3 hours. gotta unplug a bit...

My phone broke about four months ago and I was without one for a couple of days. It's a really unsettling feeling. You constantly think that something will go wrong while you're without a phone and no one will be able to contact you, or your car will break down and you'll have to find a pay phone.Femur wrote:i was irrationally nervous the other day when i left my phone at home for 3 hours. gotta unplug a bit...
Plus, you've got kids. I'd be irrationally nervous thinking of the worst-case scenario when nobody can get a hold of me.

it's nuts. just ten years ago you wouldn't think twice about being away from your phone for days at a time; with or without kids. the world hasn't gotten anymore dangerous. emergencies or no more prevalent then they were ten years ago. these phones are really controlling us and we gotta figure out a way to take back our peace of mind. again, i don't know what the answer is or even if there is one, but i hope there is.

I just got a cellphone last week after a self-imposed year ban. I did not miss it one bit.
