Five is the magic number for seven of the 10 winners tonight as seven of the victors light the lamp five times en route to two points. The Red Wings did one better, putting six past the Chet Pickard and the Preds in a 6-3 victory. The Leafs suck at tanking as they beat the Hurricanes with the help of four powerplay markers. The Flyers and Islanders combine for a six-goal second period, but it's two third period tallies that give them two points over the Isles. Iiro Pakarinen's first NHL goal is the lone bright spot for the Rangers, who get smoked by the Pens 5-1. The Jets take care of business with a 5-3 win over the Sens. The Panthers drop a five-spot on Ryan Miller and the Sabres with two big points.

Out west, the Kings get a late goal from Steve Sullivan and make a winner out of Hannu Toivonen with Paul Stastny's 30th of the campaign. The Oilers build a 5-0 lead at home against the Avs, which is enough to piss off Dougie Hamilton who fought late in the game. The Jackets absolutely dominate the Canucks, outshooting them by 31, but only manage three goals on Roberto Luongo. It's enough to win. The Sharks get a pair from Ryan Getzlaf in their 5-3 win over the Devils.

Man, if we hadn't putzed around these last few weeks, #5 would have been real nice...

Oh, the playoffs are so close I can taste- whoa, what is that? Is that? That's what playoffs taste like? Okay, uh, I was unprepared for this. You know what? You guys can have all you want. Don't worry about me, I brought snacks.

Damn, Telegin gonna get paid this offseason. Oh well, with 55 points and +30 on a division-leading team with a 5 point cushoin at 74 games, he's earned it. Luckily Klefbom's 40 point rookie season isn't going to cost anything extra.

"MVP MVP!" screamed the crowd as AO scored his 49th goal and took over the scoring lead.

Great night for the Wings who win their 5th consecutive game.

I should also point out that Thornton's 4 or 5 game point streak - during which he was slumping - finally ended.

He's not slumping anymore.
