It will be an extremely long offseason for the Devils and their fans to reflect on what could have been. After battling for the top seed in the Eastern Conference for most of the season, the Devils fell to 5th and fell behind Carolina 3-1. After roaring back to tie the series and force Game 7, the Devils blew a 3-0 lead and lost 4-3 in overtime on Casey Borer's game winner. The other Game 7 was less eventful as the Capitals took charge with three goals in just over five minutes to start the third period en route to a 5-3 win.

The top four seeds all advance in the East. Pittsburgh will host Carolina on Tuesday and Montreal will host Washington.

Damn, after coming back from 3-1 down and having a 3-0 lead in game 7 this is very tough to take, felt we were a legitimate chance to go deep.

Things might need a little shake up in the off season maybe.

Lower seed. 0 road wins. Math is a bitch.

Congrats, Tim. Probably a positive for the future of the team to avoid being crippled by a healthy and rested Pittsburgh.

Surprising result after the horrible run of test sims. Good series, Tommy.

How the hell is Datsyuk a -7? Only Komisarek has a worse rating this postseason. Shows what a useless stat +/- is.

Completely overlooked the fact that I have about $3M in LTIR that I can use. Need to make some personnel changes because Pyatt/Steckel/Methot have no idea what they're doing.

Come at me Brad you big douche!

I'd be happy to take that Stamkos guy off your hands. He's the reason you lost the series. ;)

No cap in playoffs. There's no max roster size, so can't very well have a cap.

Huh? Last time I asked you said the cap would still apply in EHEC playoffs. There isn't one in the NHL though, mostly because all of the regular season games have been played.

Haha yeah, don't think Stammer moves any time soon. May need to look at the D though(hopefully just bringing Maatta, Andersson and Somerby up should do the trick though)

Probably should have done that towards the end of this season really, oh well.

The West playoffs don't start until 5/3. I don't remember if we shortened the layoff last year or not.

Fuck if I know. It might have been on MSN and I can't find anything searching through the mountain of posts about 'salary cap' and 'playoffs' here.

I remember Adam also saying this to me on MSN awhile ago, I asked if it would apply to which he replied "Why wouldn't it apply?"

No joke, I found a conversation on MSN where I asked if the cap would still be in place and the reply was "why wouldn't it be?" I offered a couple of reasons why it wouldn't be and the conversation ended there, so from then on I assumed it was still in place without it ever actually being confirmed.

The real question is...

Going to bump the playoffs up two days from what the file says. The West will start tomorrow 5/1 and the East will start on Thursday 5/2. Will change dates and all that when it generates the second round. I have no idea why it takes so long.
