EHEC Awards 2012-13

Post by SharksGM »

We haven't done awards for last season and if we don't do them anytime soon they'll probably never get done, so here goes. I'll copy and paste the info from the previous season and you can all vote during the Olympic break since half of us already have nothing to do and pretty soon it will just be 4 teams with any lines to send in.

Like the real voting, we'll use a ranked ballot. You can vote for up to 3 candidates. Your top choice will earn 3 votes, second 2, and third 1. Moreover, although I will provide some candidates/suggestions below, you do not have to vote for players on these lists. You can vote for whoever you want if you have a better idea who should win; these are merely suggestions.

Please also note that all of these awards are based on regular season stats only, other than (obviously) the Conn Smythe. If you don't have the file from last season, you can always download the file from the end of the playoffs last season and have a look again (thanks Parker).

HERE ARE THE SUGGESTED CANDIDATES FOR THE 2012-2013 SEASON:

Vezina Trophy (Annual award given to the goalie that best excels in his position)

1. Jaroslav Halak, Chicago Blackhawks (26-15-2-5, 2.57 GAA and .901 sv% in GP)
2. John Gibson, Florida Panthers (29-25-2-7, 2.74 GAA and .897 sv% in 64 GP)
3. Simeon Varlamov, Washington Capitals (34-17-0-10, 2.36 GAA and .895 sv% in 63 GP)

Jack Adams Award (Annual award given to the EHEC GM/Coach adjudged to have contributed the most to his team's success)

As with last year, vote for the GM/Coach combo because we do the actual coaching around here. Although there is a separate GM of the year award it doesn't make much sense to vote for a coach who did nothing. Pittsburgh won the President's Trophy with 118 pts and Calgary finished 2nd with 112; Phoenix and Montreal tied for 3rd with 111.

Calder Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the EHEC)

1. G John Gibson, Florida Panthers (29-25-2-7, 2.74 GAA and .897 sv% in 64 GP)
2. F Mark Scheifele, Philadelphia Flyers (19-31-50, +9, 7 PIM, -68 T-G, 21 SB and 53.3 FO% in 62 GP)
3. D Oscar Klefbom, San Jose Sharks (11-39-50, +29, 64 PIM, 46 T-G, 42 SB in 82 GP)
4. D Bohumil Jank, Carolina Hurricanes (7-32-39, +24, 14 PIM, 83 T-G, 37 SB in 82 GP)

Hart Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team)

1. F Ilya Kovalchuk, New Jersey Devils (51-65-116, +41, 29 PIM, -95 T-G, 21 SB in 82 GP)
2. F Alexander Ovechkin, Detroit Red Wins (53-63-116, +29, 48 PIM, 14 T-G, 40 SB in 82 GP)
3. D Petter Granberg, Florida Panthers (7-48-55, +19, 26 PIM, 17 T-G, 86 SB, 28 mins/G in 82 GP)

Lady Byng Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability)

1. F Thomas Vanek, Buffalo Sabres (48-33-81, +11, 12 PIM in 82 GP)
2. F Jonathan Huberdeau, Winnipeg Jets (22-40-62, +12, 4 PIM, in 82 GP)
3. D Colby Cohen, Montreal Canadiens (3-32-35, +10, 4 PIM, in 75 GP)

James Norris Memorial Trophy (Annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position)

1. D Shea Weber, Nashville Predators (13-48-61, -6, 42 PIM, 16 T-G, 104 SB in 82 GP)
2. D Petter Granberg, Florida Panthers (7-48-55, +19, 26 PIM, 17 T-G, 86 SB, 28 mins/G in 82 GP)
3. D Mike Green, Detroit Red Wings (14-51-65, +15, 30 PIM, -31 T-G, 62 SB in 80 GP)
4. D Andrei Markov, Washington Capitals (17-51-68, +2, 41 PIM, -34 T-G, 80 SB in 82 GP)

Frank J. Selke Trophy (Annual award given to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game, usually Rick Nash)

1. F Rick Nash, New York Islanders (37-37-74, +31, 19 PIM, 138 T-G, 70 SB in 82 GP)
2. F Thomas Vanek, Buffalo Sabres (48-33-81, +11, 12 PIM, 88 T-G, 43 SB in 82 GP)
3. F Jason Spezza, Ottawa Senators (31-39-70, +11, 12 PIM, 72 T-G, 17 SB in 82 GP)

John Bucyk Trophy (Annual award, given to the player that had the most surprising impact on his team). Note: This doesn't explicitly exclude rookies, but we already have an award for that. Any thoughts on whether it should exclude rookies?

1. D Tyler Cuma, New Jersey Devils (8-48-56, +30, 51 PIM, 26 T-G, 73 SB in 82 GP)
2. F Tomas Filippi, Calgary Flames (26-40-66, +9, 72 PIM, -16 T-G, 17 SB in 78 GP)
3. F John McFarland, St. Louis Blues (29-38-67, +15, 42 PIM, 19 T-G, 26 SB in 82 GP)
4. G John Gibson, Florida Panthers (29-25-2-7, 2.74 GAA and .897 sv% in 64 GP)

Bob Probert Award (Annual award, given out this year for the first time, to the most fearced (feared+fierce) agitator in the league)

1. D Scott Mayfield, Toronto Maple Leafs (173 PIM, 81 T-G, 23 FW in 31 FI in 82 GP)
2. F David Clarkson, Toronto Maple Leafs (287 PIM, 18 T-G, 23 FW in 27 FI in 82 GP)
3. F Brandon Archibald, Florida Panthers (149 PIM, 54 T-G, 16 FW in 21 FI in 76 GP)

The Conn Smythe is usually awarded by EHM. That's dumb, so vote for the winner instead. EHM gave it to Cody Hodgson this year, which means that it should go to a defenseman or something.

Conn Smythe Trophy (Given to the top playoff performer).

1. F Cody Hodgson, Pittsburgh Penguins (9-15-24, +6, 8 PIM, -22 T-G, 5SB, 49.2 FO% in 19 GP)
2. F Anze Kopitar, Pittsburgh Penguins (8-12-20, +7, 8 PIM, 14 T-G, 3 SB, 59.1 FO% in 19 GP)
3. F Shane Doan, Phoenix Coyotes (12-9-21, +7, 14 PIM, +5 T-G, 7 SB in 18 GP)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Send your ballots by PM to me. I will accumulate the results and post the winners once all ballots are received. All votes are due by the end of the Olympics.

The Olympics are technically over, so I'm just going to give a warning that a lot of Sharks are going to be winning awards if you don't submit ballots.

Please note the instructions - you can vote for up to 3 players per award, and there are no limits on voting for your own players because that's how the real awards roll and how guys like Tyler Bozak somehow get Selke votes. Nonetheless, I recommend voting for sensible options. You don't have to vote for any of the guys I listed; those are just what I feel are reasonable suggestions.

I updated the threads with the non-voting awards (the Cup, President's, Ross, Richard, and Jennings trophies). So far I've received at least 10 ballots, but the more the merrier. You have until the sim tonight to send in a ballot and I'll post the results within about 12 hours. Even if you weren't around for the last season, you can load up the file and have a look.

I've updated the first half of the awards threads with winners, but I'm not going to finish the rest until tomorrow. So in the meantime, here are all of the winners (bolded will be posted tomorrow):

Vezina: Varlamov (WSH)
Jack Adams: Darryl Sutter & Bros. + Julien Rozon (CGY)
Calder: Klefbom (SJ)
Hart: Ovechkin (WSH). Kovalchuk (NJ) and Granberg (FLA) finish 2nd and 3rd.
Byng: Vanek (BUF) wins a tie with more 1st-place votes. Huberdeau (WPG) and Cohen (MTL) finish 2nd and 3rd by very slim margins.
Norris: Granberg (FLA) wins by a fair margin over Weber (NSH) and Markov (WSH).
Selke: Nash (NYI) wins in a landslide as usual.
Bucyk: Filippi (CGY) wins by a decent margin over Cuma (NJ) and D. Smith (TB).
Probert: Clarkson (TOR) edges out his teammate Mayfield (TOR) and a distant third Archibald (FLA).
Smythe: Hodgson (PIT) wins decisively over teammate Kopitar (PIT) and Doan (PHO).

Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone who voted.
