ATTENTION HUMANS: CONNOR RANKIN SCORED A GOAL.

Two injuries warranting suspensions tonight:
CBJ loses Mike Forney for two months, earning Steven Shipley four games off;
WSH loses Morgan Rielly for two weeks, earning Ryan Stone a game off.

Montreal moves to the top of the Eastern pile, while Toronto tries gamely to keep up in the race for eighth. Westerly, the Sharks can't put any ground between them and the Yotes, while the Blues miss a chance to move into eighth on their own.

RANKING

Big win against a Eastern Conference heavyweight. CLB has bad run with injuries, sucks to loose Donskoi and Forney.

Can't really count MTL at the top with BOS & PIT having 3 games in hand and WSH 1 game.

That aside, thats an exceptional road trip. Beat LA, PHO, & SJ with an OT loss to ANA and no injuries.

After that bogus road schedule of back-to-backs, we get to return home for Boston! Nice deal.

I think with a 21-9 record on the road I'd rather stay on the road.....

Wow, my D are sure struggling to score, games without a goal:

Gunnarsson: 65
Brewer: 27
Cohen: 20
Sbisa: 20

Niskanen would have been on the list but he scored 3 games ago.

I see TJ Galiardi has been playing as my fourth line centerman for who knows how long. The fact that you wasted enough time on a non-conference opponent to check 68 OA TJ Galiardi to see that he doesn't actually play center amuses me more than anything. Keep up the good work!

Hey bud, before I forget, since you're scouting my team, could you let me know what his face-off win/loss total is? I'm thinking I might need to switch him out.

Thanks

A) It doesn't matter how good they are.

B) Well, actually, let's visit the true story.

A certain Eastern Conference team decided to be a little rat, and notifty the powers at be, that Mike Fisher playing 8 min a night on my 4th line RW was an unfair advantage. So, after a PM, I asked about if there were any other teams breaking this rule (knowing full well I wasn't the only one) and I was told no. To which, I said okay, what about DAL and COL? Now I believe this PM came in on Wednesday, so come Saturday night, those other 2 were not addressed (and there is 4 other teams also breaking said rule) but yet I was forced to make a change or the committee would do it for me if I didn't for my game vs SJ. In fear of their said changes, I changed mine up (played Mike Fisher C not RW) and as of late Sunday night, I was again told noobody else was breaking said rule, and no notification or anything was given to said other teams, so I said well, might as well make it public which should gather some attention and bring everybody up to speed.

I am the little rat Brad is referring to.

I told Adam that MTL and CGY were using players in positions they did not have eligibility in. To my knowledge, this is illegal. If not, I would be playing Jeffrey as a LW, Dalton Smith as a C, probably wouldn't of made the Voracek trade, etc.

If it's not a big deal, then set your lineup accordingly within the rules. I can understand doing it by mistake, like I think Quinn did, but doing it knowingly is gaining a competitive advantage.

TJ Galiardi and Mike Fisher playing out of position.

Yup, competitive advantage. FOR SURE.

Hilarious.

Is that why TB is only 6th in the standings? All of us above you have had competitive advantages all year?

As proof it doesn't matter, beat PHX 3-1 with Mike Fisher RW, then beat SJ 3-1 with Mike Fisher C. Suchhhhh a difference. Gtfo.

Wait a minute......you shouldn't be looking at a Western Conference team being that your team is in the East....

I agree, using players out of their natural positions is an obvious competitive advantage. As it is against the rules, people have to build their team to have the correct number of pieces at each position. Ensuring that enough cap room is available to allocate the correct amount of pieces to each position can lead to making sacrafices due to salary cap restrictions. By disregarding this rule, said sacrafices do not have to be made which usually leads to strengthening of the bottom lines. I fully agree that however TJ Galiardi made his way into the lineup is against the rules. And for that, I apologize to all five of the teams I've beaten since late January during my recent 15 game tear. I hope that replacing Galiardi with the rightful centerman, i.e. the player who I acquired and intended to play the fourth line centerman role, who happens to have a faceoff rating 27 points (50.9%) better than Galiardi, will bring my team back down to its rightful position in the standings to make up for my error. Thanks again for pointing this out, MTL! Please let me know if you notice any other inconsistencies with my team.

no Quinn says being in the East you shouldn't be knowing anything about a West team.

Let's check out Mike Fisher, 63 games played, 2 goals, 2 assists, 4 points. -4 with a 6.10 rating. If that doesn't spell advantage I don't know what does. I'm pretty sure you're aware of this, but maybe not, playing a guy out of position doesn't give you an advantage at all, in fact, it's a disadvantage. Playing Fisher (or anybody for that matter) out of position more often than not will make his attitude complete shit, therefore affecting his performance.

I agree with you though, I think we need to put a league vote to this, and perhaps get an exception passed for Dustin Jeffrey. Put it straight into the rulebook, call it the "Dustin Jeffrey exception."

I think without a shadow of a doubt If you could have been playing Jeffrey as a LW, Tampa would probably have 96 points right now and Jeffrey would have 50 points not 20. Totally agree. You lost out.

Dalton Smith as a C? Really? Over Ryan Kesler? That's interesting.

You wouldn't have made which Voracek trade? Acquiring him or trading him because in both places you came out pretty good, but then again, the Biggs trade was horrible for you according to yourself, so, maybe the sky isn't blue.

You're breaking the lines rule on just about every one of your lines. You can't play Vatanen as a RW, Armia can not play LW, and Roussel can not play C.

This is 100% false. There has been some shit said in our back and forth, but you said that I "singled you out" after I explicitly said that other teams were brought to my attention as well. Private messages were sent to all three teams that I was told about, including you, who dismissed by PM with a response of "you're hilarious".

You proceeded to tell me that you "found 10 infractions". I was then told that "7 teams" were violating position rules. I asked you to tell me who they were and you changed the subject to bitch about trade rulings, then added that you weren't "going to do my job for me". Out of the two teams you mentioned in our PM exchange, one had already been sent a message and you publicly called out the other one.

I find it interesting that you're willing to do my job for me, in your words, for your own benefit. To show that it's okay for me to violate the rules because other people are doing it. "I'm sorry, Officer. I was driving drunk because that other guy was doing it. If you're not going to write him a ticket, you can't write me one!"

More often than not, these infractions are a result of Pat or I simply putting a forward in place to complete lines for a GM that hasn't sent anything, like Biggs playing fourth line LW after the Ashton trade was entered. Since you are actively managing your team, you simply chose to ignore Fisher's positional eligibility. Quinn hasn't sent lines in months. If you look at his Starting Lineup page, Galiardi is NOT at 4th line C and he has not sent lines since.

There's a major difference between knowingly discarding a rule and being in violation because of administrative changes.

Why would there need to be a specific rule that players need to play the positions they're assigned in the file? I figured that would just be widely accepted.

I couldn't care enough about useless as fuck Mike Fisher to think he doesn't play RW when in real life I know damn well he plays RW.

Nope, you said tell you who the team's were, I said, DAL and COL for starters, and then few days later you said:

"None of them were brought to my attention and I'm not wasting my Saturday looking them up."

Even though I brought them to your attention like you asked, but you chose to ignore it and threaten me with committee lineup changes. Seems pretty singled out to me, anybody else get such threat?

While we're on the subject, the other teams currently violating said rule are CHI, MIN, NSH & VAN. So as I said, I was one of 7.

You'll have to use your lineup changing wand for CHI.

Came here to post this. Brad, Instead of all the bitching and the resulting sarcastic responses, why not actually make this constructive and be the guy to take care of this? Then you'd have no more reason to bitch, and Adam would have one less thing to take care of. If there is a problem with someone's lines, PM them. You clearly have the time to do it. If someone told me Galiardi was playing #4C, it's pretty likely I would have found ten minutes to go change out that obvious hole in my lineup. I certainly don't believe this should be up to the simmer. I know how long it takes to do a simulation and there is no time to waste doing everyone's homework for them by finding a guy with the right position eligibility to play 5 minutes a night.

I'm clearly the most socially inept GM in EHEC (see PHX goodbye thread), but being so prickly toward the one guy responsible for EHEC makes no sense. It might of not been more work, but how your speaking to him would bother me if I was Adam.

I would be more pleasant, were lucky to have Adam still running the show after all these years. However, I understand the irony of me offering GMs advice on how to communicate with other GMs.

Then you should have come to me like Vancouver did and provide me proof of a player playing a position that he previously did not have eligibility for in EHM. Vancouver came to me about Rostislav Olesz, who was C/LW, and showed me proof of him playing right wing. So I changed his position eligibility to LW/RW. It was pretty simple and I had no problems doing that for him.

Really not that hard. Takes about 45 seconds of time.

Chicago and Nashville were done by one of Pat or I due to injuries/suspensions and inactive GMs because we chose to plug and play instead of auto-line. Quinn hasn't sent updated lines. We choose not to auto line because EHM doesn't change the tactics, just the personnel. Seems easier to plug and play and move the replacing player to the fourth line in most instances.

Apparently I didn't PM Dallas, although I thought I had when I mentioned it to Julien. Guess I mentioned it to him on a messaging client.

Either way, I don't really like having to babysit with things like this. It's not hard. It doesn't have to be hard. It's pretty simple, really. All you had to do was say, "Alright, I'll change it. By the way, there are other teams in violation of this rule and they are..." instead of the way you handled it. And I'd have let them know.

I've always thought I've looked out for the better part of the league.

How the heck am I supposed to find proof Fisher has played as RW? And how on earth would you find proof that Olesz plays as RW when anything you search up on either player doesn't list them playing RW.

This is the only thing I could find, but its just fans of the team saying he plays RW:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showt ... p?t=739303

If you search both players on NHL.com, TSN.ca, Yahoo sports, ESPN, team websites, whatever, only 1 position is listed.

I didn't PM anyone Quinn since I honestly couldn't care less about this said rule, it does absolutely nothing. There's no advantage to it. I brought it up last year though, and nobody cared, if nobody cares, then I don't see why I would care. We even had to have a league vote whether or not to allow D-men to take FA on the PK!!! It's a dumb rule IMO anyways, but that's a debate for another day.

For the record your drunk driving analogy isn't valid as I said I had no problems switching my lines as long as every other team did the same. I don't care how they got to where they are, if they aren't allowed to play there, then they aren't allowed.

Is this enough to get it done? I was hoping to change Olesz to a C/RW instead of LW.

SPORTS
Panthers' Olesz playing like a new man
By Harvey Fialkov, Sun Sentinel, October 17, 2010
— On the first day of training camp, Panthers coach Pete DeBoer said he was done talking to underachieving right wing Rostislav Olesz, and added that it was "show-me time. " Four games into the season, Olesz has done just that and more. He is tied for sixth in the NHL with a plus-5, tied with new linemate David Booth for the team lead with five points and second behind Booth with 11 shots. If not for the 85 on his jersey, it'd be hard to tell this was the same player who went goalless for 30 straight games last season, in 21 of which he failed to produce a point, until scoring a goal in the season finale 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay. And in Saturday's 6-0 rout of the Lightning, Olesz put on a dazzlng show with two assists and a deflected goal off defenseman Bryan McCabe's

Guess I was wrong. It's from C/LW to C/RW, not LW/RW as I said earlier.

That doesn't list anywhere that he is now playing RW.

I'm assuming there was more to it?
Panthers place RW Steve Bernier and LW Rostislav Olesz on injured list

SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers forwards Steve Bernier and Rostislav Olesz are going on the injured list.

The Panthers also recalled defencemen Keaton Ellerby and Joe Callahan from Rochester of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

Bernier underwent surgery after breaking an orbital bone when he was punched by Minnesota's Brett Burns at the end of a game on Nov. 12 game. Burns was given a two-game suspension by the NHL.

Olesz broken a middle finger when he was hit by a puck in Boston on Nov. 18.

Ellerby had three assists and a plus-5 rating in seven games this season. Callahan had one goal and five assists in 20 games with Rochester. He has played 10 games in the NHL with the New York Islanders (2008-09) and San Jose (2009-10).
Date on that article is 1 month after the little snippet of his hot streak.

I guess I can play Mike Fisher as RW now though as Ottawa Senator fans on HF boards say they like him playing RW.

For what it's worth, Fisher did play RW in a couple Senators pre-season games.

Sep 22: Fisher notched a goal and an assist in Monday night's 3-1 win over Tampa Bay. For the past two games, head coach Cory Clouston has moved Fisher to right wing where he's played on a line with Nick Foligno on the left side and rookie Peter Regin at center.

Sure. That's really all it would take and we can evaluate the position rule in the offseason. Makes sense for Fisher to be C/RW as a RH shot anyway.

Link is a few years old, but the Olesz article was from 2010 too.

Disagree about doing position switches if there is proof in real life. Would not have traded Duclair, who currently plays center for the Remparts.

Brad, be the lines officer for real. It would be great for the league!
