Since when were 6-year deals with both types of options acceptable, never mind for ELCs?

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1195 for the option year ruling.

EHM allowed me to offer a six-year contract (just like it did with all my 2010 draft class signed out of training camp) so I assumed it was legit. Where does it say in the rules that I can't do this?

Back when Bobby Ryan was signed, the options were cut off because it was already 6 years long. I assume that's a binding precedent although it's not explicitly in the rulebook.

As for exploiting what's clearly an EHM bug to sign tryout players to obscenely long contracts, yeah, I guess that's also not explicitly in the rulebook either.

Hmm, good point. I've already offered and had entered a bunch of six-year contracts with two option years though. Perhaps that rule applies only to unrestricted free agent offers?
SharksGM wrote:As for exploiting what's clearly an EHM bug to sign tryout players to obscenely long contracts, yeah, I guess that's also not explicitly in the rulebook either.
Guilty as charged on this one, but I don't see how it's any different from any other EHM bug people have exploited before a league rule is put in place to prevent it.

The options will be cut off the contract. The Rulebook explicitly states that contracts can only carry a max term of 6 years. This should include option years because, in EHM, and maybe not in Brett Connolly's case because he'll be vastly underpaid at the end of the contract, players rarely turn down a player option. Also, team options are a given, especially at a bargain price.

The Rulebook will be edited to include this change.

I will also be looking through for similar term contracts and eliminating their options.

I know there's a freeze on contracts right now but this offer is pretty close to the default. I need someone to fill in for Jarret Stoll and I wanted to give this dude a chance. Figured it's worth a shot to offer it; refuse it if you have to. No big deal either way.

Just to clarify, entry level deals are fine to offer, the freeze is restricting the re-signing of players until a new rule is instituted for that.

Gistedt doesn't need arbitration. I'll just give him the formula's 25% base raise to his salary.

1,062,500 for him. Not like he'll make it past San Antonio anyway.

Alright. That's a lot to pay the #5 goalie in the system though. Hopefully I don't end up having to cut him to make the AHL salary cap. :P

Good with all three. Pleasantly surprised, actually. Except maybe Boedker; with his weak defence that guy had better start scoring a LOT more goals. Though he did lead the league in goalscoring in the playoffs this year. Meh.

Fucking Ahnelov though, talk about overpaid. :/

I'd actually just put those blank contracts in as placeholders just in case I couldn't get around to doing the legwork myself. My boss is on vacation, one of our general foremen just quit, and the other one is green as fuck, so I've basically been doing the work of four management types the last couple weeks.

Anyhoo, thanks for doing the math for me. :)

Yeah, but AHL max salary threshold is 1.5M now. So he'll still be in SA. He'll just be the guy ordering the 10 oz. filet mignon while the other guys eat the 6 oz.

He'll also probably have his own air conditioned tricked-out sidecar attached to the side of the team bus.
