Re: Phoenix Contract Offers

Post by Virtual Jarmo »

What I determined last year was this:
What I decided to do for the franchise tagged guys was to elevate their salary by 1M and then have an NTC with a 3 year length. So what I'm going to do is take 25% off that (or up to formula amount), and then manually edit the contract length. Worked with Weber in test sims, should work with JJ, worked with Hodgson and should work on Stamkos.

That way, I at least get the NTC in there in-game and feel more comfortable about them agreeing to in-game deals.
Problem is, I have no idea what the hell I was trying to say. I assume it made more sense then.

I don't know why I wanted guys to agree to these deals so badly. Maybe because I was already manipulating EHM's finances so much because the only players who were getting paid what they should in EHM were the guys who are really good, like Fowler, OEL, etc.

I don't think it's the NTC. I think it's the max-year deal at under 25. I'll offer 3 + NTC max bonus and see what happens.

Well, the way I thought of these franchise tags was as a way for one player to be partially exempt from the cap. It's not like the player is actually taking a pay cut as a reward for being the most valuable asset in the organization. I thought the player would be getting the full salary, and we just get 25% of it knocked off our cap hit. The reason the salary was entered with the 25% discount was just to simplify things, right?

Basically, though I'm constantly adjusting salaries anyway because EHM has the pre-set salary offerings.

Whatever I decide this summer, some of it has to be to take some of the work off of me. It's really rough in May & June.

To keep it simple, why not just offer the contract at the full amount, and then edit the file to reflect the discount after the contract is signed?

There's no easy way of doing it. Regardless, I either have to edit the salary, NTC, and number of years or I have to edit just salary and years or I have to keep offering new contracts to get the guy to accept.

Smart thing to do would be to always offer what player wants and then edit it all.

Probably the easiest way, because at least he's guaranteed to accept that way. I'd do that, since we don't rely on EHM itself for our financial system anyway.

(I figured I'd post it again since the original contract offer was almost a month old and I didn't want to risk it being lost in the shuffle.)

I mainly wanted the TW clause to protect him from waivers in 2014-15 if I have to send him down temporarily for some short-term cap relief. Does he refuse the contract offer with the TW clause?

If you had to send Grant down making above the AHL minimum, he'd be subject to re-entry waivers anyway when he came back up.

I've noticed a couple discrepancies in Phoenix salaries:

Jordan Staal was given a $6.75M contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $7M in-game.
Vladislav Kartayev was given a $3.35M contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $3.25M in-game.
Brett Connolly was given a $6.0375 contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $6M in-game.
Joe Basaraba was given a $2.275M contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $2.3M in-game.
Mark Alt was given a $4.5375M contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $4.5M in-game.
Alex Grant was given a $3.35M contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $3.25M in-game.
Andrej Nestrasil was given a $500k contract under our financial system, but he is listed as making $490k in-game.
