2015 EHEC UFA Discussion Thread

Post by Jets GM »

This UFA season is a little more eventful then most with the new minimum offer system and extension formula; figured we could use a thread just like the draft.

Not surprised to see MaxPac first to go, he suits the BSBully style well. Buffalo got a nice veteran in Gionta at a very reasonable price. But, WOW, Boyle gets over 6 million from a team with major cap issues. Interested to see how Edmonton is going to manage this....

Chicago added, what? Seven dmen. That was interesting. I'm guessing we're going to see some releases coming.

I'm going to bring up the Dan Boyle issue to Bub and we'll see what comes out of it.
Totally not a fan of that signing.

Looks like Dallas did St. Louis a favor with the St. Clair deal. Not even half of what the calculator gave him.

I don't mind this. Premium/core players are kept at a higher cost with the calculator and a free market determines the rest.

The Boyle signing is a bit concerning; will let the higher-ups determine what should happen. This also goes for Spezza, it seems something fell apart at the last minute.

You misunderstood what I meant. I was just adding to your post that indeed, interesting to see who is after Miller, and that we will know very soon since the deadline passed.

Yes, it has. +1 math skills.

The Boyle situation is ongoing. We'll keep everyone posted.

And I missed that St. Clair is an RFA. So STL has a chance to match the DAL offer. Liam, PM me with what you want to do.

Laughton and Bickell at great prices for Dallas. Brouwer was also a nice signing, Vik.

I forgot MIller didn't play last year. Might of been in on him myself.

He is listed as an RFA, but Bub confirmed the 12 PM Sunday deadline for a deal to get done had past. Consider him a UFA.

That thread is so old, I have to assume we are using the updated rulebook. I have sent in three offers on a player without success and wasn't notified of being disqualified from future bidding.

The latest Spezza thread should probably say when the new high bid was received.

And with that I'm out of Spezza-mania. Over/under on how many bids will be exceeded?

I can't find any discussion saying we changed the rule from 3 to 4. So the rulebook must be a typo.

Believe that post has been updated (though not completely) seeing as it has the new minimum, the longer than 4 years, etc.

This. The entire offseason is tough, but free agency is a whole new dynamic. You have to respond to every PM, make folders to organize bids, keep track of how many bids for each team, monitor the time limits, and somebody is bound to be unhappy and take it out on you.

Pat, Julien, and Dan have done an excellent job of taking things over and I like how they've simplified a lot of processes. I was trying to conquer too many things at one time because EHM was so limited in its financial capacity. I like a lot of the things that they have done and I like how active the current GM base is. Overzealous GMs sometimes wore on me (Hi Justin) but it was a lot better to have one of those than somebody I had to chase down twice a week to handle something.

I don't remember a year in which I had this many FA bids this early in the process. They've done a great job of spacing out the offseason as well. The turnover rate in the offseason was always something I stressed over. Not the case this summer at all, even with how quickly the draft flew by.

Thanks for the kind words, Adam, from all the league staff.

We're going to remember this free agency period in 10 months or so when we start saying "free agency here is dead." Maybe we don't get a large number of star players going UFA, but there was still talent to be had, and a lot of guys apparently needed to fill in their bottom lines and their AHL teams. It's always funny to see which players ignite little bidding wars. Nothing like the "Drew Miller for $4.5M please!" of yesteryear, but still fun to see.

And thanks to the GMs for making us work. And for being patient as new things come along and we get things sorted out. We'll be even better next year, promise.

Once the frenzy dies down in a day or two, I'll update the file with all the confirmed signings and other movements.

Now, on to the Jason Spezza sweepstakes...

New format seems to be working pretty good so far.
Older guys are making their way back into EHEC and that's a good thing to see.
I remember last year, I was able to grab most of the younger guys on pretty good deals but it's another ball game this time around. I can see some guys scouting every new name that gets bid on.

I was thinking ''This Rasmus Bengtsson dude looks cool, I'll offer him something..'' and then the bidding followed.

Guys, go to hell for not letting me walk outta here with my hands full.
But, also, thanks for the added challenge.

10.2 is max contract. So...

And it's been over 30 minutes with no new bids. Wright, Thorell, and Pribyl are getting lonely.
