2016 Draft Class

Post by Commish Bub(NYR) »

...Will be coming soon. I hope to start adding players by this weekend.

As payment, I will accept the #1 overall draft pick. There is no precedent for this, but it's something I've long wanted to do, so hooray for power.

Excited for this. Last years draft class was a lot of fun to scout.

Well then, let's hope for more of the same this year. :)

Added a bunch today; no attributes or ceilings yet, but getting the names and "bio" data in for starters.

Started (slowly) working on the attributes for the draft class. If you go into GMO, and click on the "View Draft Prospects" tab, you'll notice the following:

...all real players down to Cliff Pu (yes, that's a real name);
...ratings are done (for now) for the first 11 players on the list, then all D and G down to Mr. Pu;
...so that means all forwards from Clayton Keller down to Mr Pu have not yet been rated;
...Addison and Bradley--at the top of the list--are holdovers from last year's draft, who've been tweaked to make them more attractive

I'll probably add some more players later today or tomorrow, and continue working on the ceilings and whatnot as well. Like last year, these are not necessarily the final ratings for these players: I'm just getting started and will begin altering players up or down as I see fit. I'll keep everyone informed when I make changes to existing players.

I once had my coach praise a draftee who was retiring at the end of the season.

190 players are now in. (So everyone listed on the GMO draft prospects page is now real.) I have NOT done any more attributes or ceilings, but will get back on that soon. Like last year, I'll work on goalies first, then D, then forwards. Plus, I will add about 30 more players to the list, to give us enough for seven rounds and a few left over.

That is your update for today.

Thanks, Bub. Is a 6th and 7th round worth all your time though? Adds realism for sure, but I would have a poll to see who really cares about having those picks.

You can still draft useful role-players from those late rounds if you have an eye for that, or at least you can draft the players who will accelerate the development of your bluechip prospects while being down in your AHL affliate.

The NHL draft lottery is just eight days away, April 30. As with past years, our lottery will mirror the results of the real thing. So when Edmonton wins the NHL lottery, our Minnesota will win Auston Matthews. Below is the order of picks as they currently stand, with NHL team then EHEC team.

1. TOR --> PHI
2. EDM --> MIN
3. VAN --> MTL
4. CBJ --> COL
5. CGY --> WSH (currently owned by MTL)
6. WPG --> NYI (currently owned by STL)
7. ARZ --> NAS
8. BUF --> DET (currently owned by PHI)
9. MTL --> STL
10. COL --> FLA
11. NJD --> VAN
12. OTT --> CBJ
13. CAR --> EDM
14. BOS --> TOR (currently owned by PHI)

I'd like to know if a prospect update is due soon, and if so, will it be the last time before the draft. It would be nice to know exactly what kind of players will be out there, so we can make some moves.

Thanks, :)

You should know by now that Bub doesn't do any drastic tweaks this close to the draft anyway. What you see is probably what you are going to get for the most part. The value of picks has been determined this year imo.

Updating based on the playoffs up until now...
1 PHI
2 STL (via NYI)
3 COL
4 MIN
5 MTL
6 MTL (via WSH)
7 NSH
8 PHI (via DET)
9 STL
10 FLA
11 VAN
12 CBJ
13 EDM
14 PHI (via TOR)
15 PHI (via ANA)
16 PHI (via N.J)
17 CGY (via CHI)
18 WPG (via CGY)
19 COL (via PIT)
20 COL (via BOS)
21 COL (via OTT)
22 ARI (via S.J)
23 ANA (via DAL)
24 N.J (via BUF)
25 L.A
26 CAR

Philly and Colorado both with three consecutive picks. That could be fun.

Doesn't matter if you lose in the first or second round, you only move down if you make it to the third. For example, last season in the real world, Calgary made it past Vancouver but still kept the #15 pick in the draft (which they traded to Boston in the Dougie Hamilton deal).

I remember 2 season ago that I made the conference final and my 1st pick was 27th overall, it's why i said that. So, i believe that the pick i trade to Phi should be 23th overall if we look at what happened 2 years ago.

Conference finalists do move down (the four remaining this year will be 27-30) but the order isn't affected by whether teams were eliminated in the first or second round.

Again, you're right Vik, and I'm so glad you are!! I just looked at this year's order so far, and for example, NSH still holds pick no.17 even if they made it to the second round. So my team will indeed have 3 consecutive picks...! Yes!

Draft order rules: source: about.com/sports

Draft Order

--The 14 teams that missed the playoffs during the previous NHL season are awarded the first 14 picks. They draft in order of fewest points to most points, subject to the results of the draft lottery.

--The current Stanley Cup champion picks last (30th).

--The Stanley Cup runner-up picks 29th.

--The other two Conference Finalists pick 28th and 27th.

--Regular-season division winners hold the other lowest positions.

--Remaining teams draft in order of fewest points to most points from the previous regular season.
