Another big night in the EHEC as the fight for the playoffs continues. Boston bounces back from an OT loss with a shutout of the Devils, the Rangers hit the century mark in points with their win over the Isles, and 8th seed Ottawa loses two critical points to Washington. Columbus and Tampa Bay pretty much stay neck and neck stats-wise as the Bolts take the full monty and knock Nash out for 2 weeks in the process, Chicago gets one but not the other point in a shootout loss, and the Preds take down top seeded LA as they jockey for playoff position.

Now the news we've all been waiting for:

VANCOUVER- Roberto Luongo, star goaltender for the Vancouver Canucks, will miss the next month with what team officials are calling "a head injury". The play occurred about 7 minutes into the final period, when Coyotes defenseman Kurt Sauer crashed the net hard, colliding with Luongo in what the Canucks call a "dirty play designed to gain a playoff advantage." Sauer was immediately whistled for a 5-minute major for attempt to injure. Henrik Sedin notched the insurance goal, his 37th of the season, on the ensuing powerplay. The events didn't end there, though. Sauer and winger Jared Boll dropped the gloves just seconds after Sauer was allowed to leave the box, resulting in a Boll beatdown. Then with under a minute remaining, defenseman Shane O'Brien had his turn, also beating down Sauer in a vicious fury. Despite Luongo's teammates' redemption on his behalf, and a 5-3 victory, the fans left angry and with their heads down, as they knew from the severity of the collision that Luongo would be missing significant time.

When asked for comment after the game, Canucks management offered little, saying they'd release a statement later on. Canuck players had some choice words for Kurt Sauer and the Coyotes organization, however this beat's policy prohibits the printing of excessive profanity. The Canucks did however release a brief statement from Luongo himself following the game: "Sometimes Mr. Murphy just keeps on coming back for more, this time it was me who had to take the honors." Based on the statement, it is believed Luongo suffered a potential Grade 3 concussion.

February may have proven to be a glorious month for Roberto Luongo, winning Gold at the Winter Olympics in his home country, and in the crease he calls "home" during the regular season, however with just 6 games remaining for Vancouver, their goaltender's injury couldn't come at a worse time. They hold an 8 point lead over the Edmonton Oilers, but so far this season, Luongo has played in every single game, including the rare times he's had to sub for his backup. Time will tell how much this will impact the Canucks, and much of the post-season Luongo will miss.

http://ehechockey.com/EHEC.zip will give you further details on this, and the rest of the goings on in the league.

Huge night for Morozov and the top two lines, even though AO goes pointless for the first time in eleven games.

Sucks seeing Louuuu go down, which makes me want to start Neuvirth for a couple games before the playoffs start - however with this intense dogfight for the East title, I'm not sure if starting a goalie with 5 games of NHL experience is the best idea right now.

Well, Nash gets a couple weeks to rest. He should be back the day before the playoffs start. Other than that, sucks that the unbeaten in regulation streak is over. Orpik got him with 15 god damn seconds left too. No scoring title for Nash. Means it's Gaborik's to lose.

I hate you.

Seriously thank god O'Brien and Boll gave him a beating, at least my team defends eachother! Ooh and good for me for being smart enough not to trade Schneider at the deadline, here's hoping he can pull it together.

Thank you, sir. Given the caliber player and the significance of the timing/injury it needed to be done. Besides, I don't do enough of them as is. :P
