Bracketology

Post by GM Office Q »

Would anyone be down with some EHEC and possibly NHL bracketology? Stolen from HFBoards, we could conduct a round by round bracket competition for both the EHEC playoffs and NHL playoffs, especially since EHEC is real time (another reason to love it).

The way I see it, we could have the same scoring system for the EHEC bracket and NHL bracket, with the overall winner getting some sort of EHM reward... CON boost to a shitty prospect? That can also be discussed.

Thoughts?

Yes - I would volunteer to keep score.

Sounds like a good idea. Nothing wrong with stealing from HF. It's the premier hockey message board out there.

I've never done their brackets, so I don't know how they set it up, award points, etc, but I'm in.

Absolutely I'm in. It's become a yearly ritual for me to make my full predictions come playoff time. Some years I've done stellar, other I've tanked. It's always fun though :)

Bracketology 2010!

JOIN UP!!!...by doing the following:

1) Create a new post in this thread before the start of the first game of the Playoffs.
2) In that post, tell me who you believe will be the WINNER and the SERIES LENGTH.
3) I prefer you follow this format in all rounds:
a. Post Eastern Conference first, and start with the highest-seeded matchups (WSH vs. MTL, SJ vs. COL).
b. Tell me how many games (4,5,6, or 7), not the final win margin.
c. Keep it simple, like "WSH in 5" or "NSH in 7."
4) Only pick the first round. If you make selections for later rounds I will IGNORE them.
5) If you revise your original picks, make a NEW post that clearly says "REVISION" on it.

...and that's it! Return after every round to make new picks, since sometimes your picks don't go the way you planned...

SCORING
- Winner: In the first round, you get 1.00 points for choosing the winner.
- Series Length: In the first round, you get the following number of points for how close your series length was to the actual result:
Image
- Riding a Team: If you correctly select a team in Round 1 AND Round 2, your Round 1 results with that team are augemened 61.8%. This also goes for later rounds, and compounds if you pick correctly three or four rounds in a row.

STRATEGY
- Picking series length correctly always nets you the most points, but getting a sweep correct gets you more points, and getting a 6-game correct gets you less.
- Riding a team through multiple rounds is a big boost for earlier results

I just went back and double checked. Montreal holds the tiebreaker over Ottawa. I will have to adjust the playoff schedule because Montreal is the #7 and Ottawa is the #8. The brackets will have to be changed in this thread.

And I appreciate that.

Sure, we'll give 10 CON points to the winner, no more than 5 to one prospect. You can spread them however you wish. 10 players go up 1, 2 players go up 5.

The player cannot have a CON above 72 before the points are added.
