2009-2010 Season

Record: 47-32-3-0, 97 Points (3rd in the West, 11th overall)
GF: 230 (20th overall)
GA: 223 (7th overall)
PP: 20.34% (8th overall)
PK: 83.25% (8th overall)

An extremely interesting season in Vancouver, with more inconsistency than you could possibly shake a stick at you could question the teams leadership. A mid season massive shakeup that left top prospect Cody Hodgson on his way to Texas, and Brendan Morrow, Jere Lehtinen, and Stephane Robidas coming in my books started to pick it up until a massive scare at the end of the season with superstar Roberto Luongo getting shaken up seriously in a contest against the Phoenix Coyotes. Going into the playoffs, we started goaltending prospect Corey Schneider who had a strong season in the American Hockey League with our affiliate the Manitoba Moose and frankly we didn't expect a victory against the Edmonton Oilers who we battled all season with for the Northwest Division title which we secured towards the end of the season.

With a great home record all season it was no surprise that during the playoffs we were strong at General Motors Place but as usual through the whole season inconsistency on the road eventually lead to a game seven loss to the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference Finals. While Corey Schneider provided a first round win against the Oilers, Luongo prevailed against hated rival the Chicago Blackhawks but couldn't compete against the upstart Nashville Predators. Going into next season we are looking to make moves shipping veterans as well as prospects Corey Schneider and Michael Grabner out the door, and we are doing whatever we can to provide a more conducive atmosphere next season on the road. Here's to our chances in 2011!

Goaltending:

Roberto Luongo: Another strong outing for Roberto, though after a hot start in the playoffs after his injury, he tailed off against the Predators. We expect Roberto to come back next year better than ever and improve on his 89.2% save percentage.
Final Grade: B

Andrew Raycroft: Strictly used as a goaltender to relieve Roberto when he wasn't having a good night, it's difficult to rate Andrew who won't be back with us next season.
Final Grade: I

Corey Schneider: Corey had a great season on a struggling team in Manitoba and more than stepped up as a rookie down the stretch winning the first round series against Edmonton.
Final Grade: B+

Defensemen:

Alex Edler: Alex stepped up as prominent number on defenseman on the hockey club this year with 49 points and solid 7.62 rating during the year. We'd like Alex to slowly develop into a more defensive minded defenseman.
Final Grade: B

Mathieu Schneider: Mathieu more than provided what we wanted him to when coming into Vancouver. Provide leadership and show our young defese corps how to run a powerplay. With 8 powerplay goals and 23 points he certainly did that and even added a few even strength points.
Final Grade: B+

Stephane Robidas: Stephane wwas a mid season acquisition from Dallas, and helped provide a top four asset with a bit of offensive abilitiy. Stephane stepped up in the playoffs with 10 points in 19 games and will defintely be tendered a contract for next season.
Final Grade: A

Kevin Bieksa: Kevin is always a defenseman we strive to get more out of, particularly offensively. We feel he can provide more than the 33 points he did this year.
Final Grade: C

Shane O'Brien: Shane finally established himself as a solid defenseman worth of a long term contract this year. With 117 hits, 150 takeaways, and eight fights Shane more than provided the defensive presence we needed back there from him and he will be signed long term this summer.
Final Grade: A

Willie Mitchell: Willie started to slow this season but still provide leadership and defensive effort that impressed. Wille needs to work on providing more offense so that his plus minus doesn't look like it does.
Final Grade: C+

Brad Lukowich: Brad was a great depth defenseman for us coming in when he had to and filling in admirably, and we hope to bring him back and potentially get him into more hockey games.
Final Grade: I

Forwards:

Daniel Sedin: A fourty goal season provides Daniel with an impressive season but more could be expected out of him defensively and next year teamed with his brother Daniel and phenom Jordan Schroeder for the full season potentially more points.
Final Grade: B+

Pavol Demitra: An unimpressive season for the millions of dollars we paid him, Pavol stepped up during the playoffs but however will not be welcomed back.
Final Grade: B-

Alex Burrows: An unimpressive season from the pest turned goal scorer. Currently on the trade block looking to see if there are any suitors for him as he is a legit third line winger. Alex needs to bring it next year and improve on his defensive game.
Final Grade: B-

Mason Raymond: Mason had a pretty good year while fighting to get in and out of the lineup. However, he most likely won't be back next year as he is on the block looking for a trade to a team that can provide his 14 points in 23 games a full season of playing time.
Final Grade:B

Darcy Hordichuk: With Jared Boll winning more fights and throwing more hits, Darcy needs to find a way to step up and provide what we know he can. A -12 doesn't look good for his roster spot next season.
Final Grade: C-

Mikael Samuelsson: An injury mideason basically has forced Mikael into trying to find a new home. The team has granted him permission to speak to other teams in regards to a trade after a somewhat successful season.
Final Grade:B-

Brenden Morrow: A perfect role model for Ryan Kesler, and a true leader. Seriously struggled during the season to find a role on the team offensively but more than stepped up in the playoffs with 11 goals and 19 points in 19 games. Will be expected to carry some offensive production over to next season.
Final Grade: B

Jere Lehtinen: More was expected out of Jere, who is getting up in age. We'll sit down and discuss with him what his plans are for next year and what his role could potentially be. Can still provide penalty kill depth and leadership.
Final Grade: C+

Jordan Schroeder: What can really be said about this phenom? We knew we had something special but NOBODY in our organization expected him in the NHL this year let alone producing on the top line. With 11 goals in the playoffs, we hope Jordan can continue his firepower next season.
Final Grade: A+

Jared Boll: A mid season acquisition from the Blue Jackets organization, Jared was brought into create havoc and he did just that producing 109 hits and 14 fight victories.
Final Grade: A

Rick Rypien: Rick didn't provide anywhere near what was expected of him and he'll have to have an impress camp next year to expect to stay in the lineup where he is expected to play a kamikaze role.
Final Grade: F

Henrik Sedin: You can't really complain when a player of yours plays into the top ten in league scoring but Henrik and his brother combined for a woefully defensively inept line during the regular season and during the playoffs though they did produce impressive numbers.
Final Grade: A

Ryan Kesler: A captain in the making. Ryan Kesler had a successful regular season, but really made his money's worth in the playoffs with a 12 game point streak and still currently sits second in league scoring. After his coming out in the playoffs we expect him to break the thirty goal mark next season.
Final Grade: A+

Kyle Wellwood: More to be expected from Kyle in his role although it was a difficult role for him to fill as Ryan Kesler replaced him as the second line offensive center. Wellwood will be asked back and will provided a more defined role as we hope to push him over the twenty goal mark.
Final Grade: C

Ryan Johnson: An incredibly disappointing season for Ryan who battled injury issues all year. With only 65 games in this season Ryan wasn't what we expected on the penalty kill which is where he makes his living. He most likely won't be asked back.
Final Grade: C-
